Higgins<\/a> has secured a \u00a344m contract to deliver affordable homes at the former Shredded Wheat Factory in Hertfordshire<\/h2>\n

The contract will see Higgins design and build 208 mixed tenure affordable homes for Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing<\/a> on the former Shredded Wheat Factory site in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.<\/p>\n

The scheme will comprise 52 shared ownership properties, 106 for affordable rent and 50 homes exclusively for the over 55s.<\/p>\n

The Shredded Wheat Factory south site will deliver homes that are geared at fulfilling the housing needs<\/a> of the local community. Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council<\/a> approved plans in December 2019 after close consultation with the local community.<\/p>\n

Much needed affordable homes<\/h3>\n

Steve Leakey, managing director of Higgins, said: \u201cWe are delighted to be awarded this prestigious contract at The Shredded Wheat Factory south site which will deliver much needed affordable housing<\/a> for the local community as well as a number of important local amenities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a proven track record of working with Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing on a number of successful schemes including Clapham Park and Ealing Road, Alperton and look forward to working in partnership with them to deliver another milestone project for the local community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Steve Lawson, senior development manager for Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, added: \u201cThe former Shredded Wheat Factory is an iconic site at the heart of Welwyn Garden City history.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing seven decades as a bustling workspace, this former factory space will soon be serving the needs of the local community in a fresh new way as we prepare to regenerate the south site to reflect the unique needs of the diverse community.<\/p>\n
