{"id":72296,"date":"2020-02-24T10:13:41","date_gmt":"2020-02-24T10:13:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=72296"},"modified":"2020-02-24T10:13:41","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T10:13:41","slug":"bermondsey-build-to-rent-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/bermondsey-build-to-rent-scheme\/72296\/","title":{"rendered":"Bermondsey build-to-rent scheme gets the green light"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Planning permission has been granted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grosvenor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grosvenor<\/a> for its Bermondsey build-to-rent scheme, which includes 1,548 new rental homes, 482 of which will be affordable<\/h2>\n<p>Planning permission for the Bermondsey build-to-rent scheme follows the decision by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.london.gov.uk\/about-us\/mayor-london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mayor of London<\/a> in May 2019 to call in the application and act as the planning authority for the development.<\/p>\n<p>Grosvenor has worked closely with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.southwark.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Southwark Council<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.london.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GLA<\/a> to increase the level of affordable housing whilst ensuring the project remains deliverable.<\/p>\n<p>The new designs provide 1,548 rental homes of which 35% will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/62-decline-affordable-housing\/69381\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">affordable housing<\/a>, with 30% at social rent equivalent and 70% at discounted market rent.<\/p>\n<h3>Key points<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The first phase will deliver 359 rental homes, of which 35% will be affordable, as well as the delivery of the new 600 pupil secondary school and 8,155 sq ft of employment space<\/li>\n<li>Former biscuit factory to be transformed into a new neighbourhood anchored by over 1,500 homes for rent, including 35% affordable<\/li>\n<li>3 acres of public and play space, 141 new trees and no private cars on the site<\/li>\n<li>Circa 1,400 jobs created on completion and a further 1,500 during construction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alongside new homes and a school, Bermondsey will now benefit from substantial new play and public spaces. Local businesses will enjoy greater footfall and an estimated increase of \u00a322m to spend each year.<\/p>\n<p>New job opportunities will be created through 150,000 sq ft of flexible employment space, creating a lasting social and economic legacy for the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n<h3>Becoming a part of the community in Bermondsey<\/h3>\n<p>Simon Harding-Roots, executive director of major projects, Grosvenor Britain &amp; Ireland, said:\u00a0\u201cThis project speaks directly to our purpose as a business \u2013 to bring lasting social and commercial benefit to the communities where we work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the approved homes are for rent, and none are for sale. Every home will be occupied and managed by a responsible landlord with a genuine long-term interest in ensuring the neighbourhood thrives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince 2013 we\u2019ve worked hard to become part of the community in Bermondsey and we are incredibly excited to get the green light for this development.
