Construction and civil engineering firm Graham<\/a> has been chosen as the main contractor on the new \u00a339.5m M11 Junction 7A at Harlow, which will start shortly<\/h2>\n

Delivering the important new access from the M11 Junction 7A, the works will see a new junction and link road created, connecting the motorway with Gilden Way, east of Harlow, and creating a new east-west link through the town.<\/p>\n

The M11 Junction 7A scheme is located between Junctions 7 and 8 of the M11. It will see the existing B183 widened, creating an additional lane heading westbound and providing two lanes to the existing London Road Roundabout which links to the A414.<\/p>\n

This will be supported by the conversion of the existing Church Gate Roundabout on the B183 into a \u2018hamburger\u2019 style arrangement with traffic lights installed\u00a0and the existing local road network<\/a> connected via the creation of a new Campions Roundabout.<\/p>\n

Graham will now begin the detailed design work with its design partner AECOM<\/a>, ahead of beginning full construction.<\/p>\n

\"M11<\/a><\/p>\n

Important new infrastructure<\/h3>\n

Councillor Kevin Bentley, deputy leader of Essex County Council<\/a> and cabinet member for infrastructure, said: \u201cThis is a critically important piece of new infrastructure which we have been working with partners for a number of years to help make a reality.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new junction will not only be a boost to the thousands of people who are travelling into and out of Harlow on a daily basis through alleviating some of the congestion issues in the town, but offers new public transport opportunities and will help further unlock the economic potential of Harlow through supporting business growth in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Hand, pre-construction director of the Graham civil engineering division, commented: \u201cWe\u2019re pleased to have been awarded this hugely beneficial highways scheme by Essex County Council which is the latest in our growing portfolio of highway improvement schemes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project will reduce congestion and improve access to Harlow\u2019s road network, creating economic growth and improving connectivity for residents, businesses, and visitors to Harlow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alan Ross, regional director at AECOM, said: \u201cAs lead designers for Graham, AECOM will work closely with local communities to deliver a scheme which not only helps people and businesses move around more easily, but also improves the environmental impact of the road for those who live and travel along this route.<\/p>\n

\u201cFactors such as noise reduction and better integration with the environment will be contribute to the projects legacy and benefit generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

The M11 Junction 7A project was funded through Highways England, the Department for Transport, Essex County Council and the South East Local Enterprise Partnership,<\/p>\n

Julie Crawford, regional delivery director (East) for Highways England<\/a>, added: \u201cHighways England is pleased to be supporting these plans to build an additional junction on the M11 at Harlow.<\/p>\n

“We are confident that, once delivered, this new junction will contribute towards improving safety and reducing congestion, two of Highways England\u2019s top priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Construction is expected to commence on Gilden Way\/Sheering Road in late spring 2020, with works on the motorway junction and link road likely to start in summer\/autumn 2020.<\/p>\n

The new junction is planned to open in 2022.<\/p>\n
