Offsite provider Fusion Building Systems<\/a> has been chosen by Jehu Group<\/a> to design, manufacture and build light steel frame superstructures for three of its developments in South Wales<\/h2>\n

Fusion\u2019s light steel frame system was specified following an industry recommendation as a suitable lightweight steel solution which would match the speed of construction of timber frame, reduce fire risks during and after construction, reduce waste and minimise building shrinkage and movement.<\/p>\n

Jehu has previous experience of using offsite prefabricated systems<\/a>, though largely as volumetric modular solutions, rather than a bespoke panelised system like Fusion\u2019s.<\/p>\n

This is the first time the two companies have worked together and the contracts are a result of Jehu\u2019s decision to find an alternative offsite solution to timber frame<\/a>, for buildings of three storeys and above.<\/p>\n

The developments in South Wales<\/h3>\n

The three projects which make up Fusion\u2019s contract include two apartment developments in Barry and Swansea, and an Extra Care facility in Pontypridd.<\/p>\n

Installation work at Hood Road apartments in Barry is almost complete, while a design freeze has now been achieved for Orchard House apartments in Swansea and an Extra Care facility on the site of the former Pontypridd Magistrates Court.<\/p>\n

Martin Workman, Jehu Group construction director, said: \u201cAt Jehu Group we made a conscious decision to employ alternative structural options for building over three storeys in height. Our inhouse technical department reviewed Fusion\u2019s lightweight steel system<\/a> alongside others, and as it happened, a number of suitable schemes came to fruition at the same time.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdopting Fusion\u2019s system has been a steep learning curve, but one which has so far produced pleasing results. Installation work at Barry has been to the agreed programme with site deliveries, materials management, health and safety, and the quality of the work all to a high standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn future projects I\u2019d be keen to bring Fusion in earlier on in our viability discussions, so each side can benefit from greater clarity and work towards building a relationship for the long term.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stewart Hackney, Fusion Building Systems business development manager, added: \u201cWe\u2019re extremely pleased to be working with Jehu Group and to know the Fusion system was specified due to the benefits it has over other offsite solutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur teams are working well together on the current projects but the effective application of offsite methods of construction is something which develops over time. It\u2019s a new way of working and we look forward to engaging with Jehu early on in their future project discussions to help maximise efficiencies along their entire supply chain.\u201d<\/p>\n
