{"id":72908,"date":"2020-03-09T09:43:14","date_gmt":"2020-03-09T09:43:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=72908"},"modified":"2020-03-09T09:43:14","modified_gmt":"2020-03-09T09:43:14","slug":"national-manufacturing-institute-scotland-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/national-manufacturing-institute-scotland-2\/72908\/","title":{"rendered":"Green light for carbon-neutral NMIS building"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.renfrewshire.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Renfrewshire Council<\/a> gave the green light\u00a0for the new energy carbon-neutral building, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmis.scot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Manufacturing Institute Scotland<\/a> (NMIS), located on the Netherton Campus at the centre of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strath.ac.uk\/whystrathclyde\/news\/workstartsonscotlandsadvancedmanufacturinginnovationdistrict\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland<\/a>\u00a0(AMIDS)<\/h2>\n<p>The National Manufacturing Institute Scotland facility will help support manufacturing and engineering firms of all sizes and from all sectors across the country, and internationally, to innovate and grow their businesses.<\/p>\n<p>At around 1.5 times the size of Hampden football pitch, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/national-manufacturing-institute-scotland\/68033\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the facility<\/a> will include a skills academy, a fully digitalised factory of the future and a collaboration hub.<\/p>\n<p>NMIS is a group of industry-led manufacturing research and development facilities where industry, academia and the public sector work together on ground-breaking manufacturing research to transform productivity levels, make companies more competitive and boost the skills of our current and future workforce.<\/p>\n<p>It is operated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.strath.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of Strathclyde<\/a> and supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scottish Government<\/a>, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, High-Value Manufacturing Catapult, Skills Development Scotland, Scottish Funding Council and Renfrewshire Council.<\/p>\n<h3>Key facilities<\/h3>\n<p>The new facility, along with the NMIS specialist technology centres: Lightweight Manufacturing Centre and Strathclyde\u2019s Advanced Forming Research Centre; the only High-Value Manufacturing Catapult Centre in Scotland, are key facilities in the manufacturing innovation district being developed next to Glasgow Airport, with Netherton Campus also home to the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is well underway on the district\u2019s enabling infrastructure, funded through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.glasgowcityregion.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Glasgow City Region City Deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Support skills development and economic growth<\/h3>\n<p>Fiona Hyslop, economy secretary, commented: \u201cSecuring planning permission is a significant milestone for NMIS.
