the UK to deliver more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/modular-construction-news\/mmc-timber-frame\/65997\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainable buildings<\/a> in the near future<\/h2>\n<p>The Platform programme \u2013 which uses Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) \u2013 will be driven by a collaborative team of integrators comprising some of construction\u2019s biggest players: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skanska.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skanska<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bam.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BAM<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcelectric.at\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PCE<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mid-group.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MID Group<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kier.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kier<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vinciconstruction.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">VINCI Construction UK<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macegroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mace<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mottmac.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mott MacDonald<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A central plank of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/modular-construction-news\/construction-innovation-hub-offsite\/61121\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hub\u2019s four-year government-backed programme<\/a> to transform UK construction, Platforms will enable new buildings to be designed and configured using a pre-defined \u2018kit of parts\u2019, which are proven to demonstrate greater whole-life value, lower carbon and energy use, better safety and quality and which will improve the overall performance of buildings.<\/p>\n<p>Supported through every step of the programme by manufacturing, building performance and digital specialists from the three partners of the Hub \u2013 the MTC, BRE and CDBB.<\/p>\n<p>Platform participants will develop and refine their products, technologies or services which will then be installed and widely showcased on a proof-of-concept building, demonstrating how these solutions can be applied across a wide range of UK government projects for vital new buildings like schools, hospitals and prisons.<\/p>\n<p>The wider collaborative team for the Hub\u2019s Platform programme comprises over forty businesses drawn from a range of disciplines and includes a number of specialist SMEs, who will work alongside the Hub and the integrators, providing design, specialist consultancy services, sub-assembly, components and materials that will be showcased on the proof of concept building.<\/p>\n<h3>Driving improved productivity<\/h3>\n<p>Speaking at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurebuild.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Futurebuild2020<\/a>, Construction Innovation Hub programme director, Keith Waller, said: \u201cOur flagship Platform Design programme is a game-changer for construction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the right blend of expertise and collaboration across government and industry, we could see a critical mass of newly built projects like schools and hospitals constructed using the Platform approach in as little as ten years, driving improved productivity and performance for the sector and better outcomes for the environment and society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe innovative businesses joining us on our journey are the vanguard of transformative change, not just in terms of how we create buildings, but in how those buildings impact on our lives and the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MMC programme director at the infrastructure and projects authority (IPA), Will Varah, said: \u201cThere is a strong alignment between the IPA\u2019s P-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/bim-dfma-future-construction\/32775\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DfMA approach<\/a> and the Hub\u2019s Platform
