London developer Galliard Homes<\/a> has announced that it will close all of its construction sites across London with immediate effect \u2013 with the exception of important safety works<\/h2>\n

This decision to close all of its construction sites<\/a> will help to ensure the health and safety of Galliard Home\u2019s on-site staff, and will also remove some 2,500 Galliard construction workers from the London Transport Network.<\/p>\n

Removing the workers from the London Transport Network will help to free up public transport for NHS staff and other key workers who have essential priority and safe travel conditions at this critical time.<\/p>\n

Still open for business<\/h3>\n

Galliard will remain \u2018open for business\u2019. Its sales function remains operational and the business is continuing to market some 1,000 homes across the capital, with Galliard sales team, working from home, using video and other technology to market homes remotely to buyers.<\/p>\n

Galliard, which employs over 3,000 people, can confirm that all the company\u2019s 60 sales and marketing staff are working remotely from home<\/a>, as are the rest of the group\u2019s planning, personnel, finance and administrative teams who are normally based at the company\u2019s head office.<\/p>\n

Construction staff safety<\/h3>\n

Stephen Conway, executive chairman of Galliard, said: \u201cOur business was born in London and we are committed to the capital, but during these unprecedented times the safety of our construction staff, families and our London communities is paramount and we believe that by taking our staff out of daily commuting we will help to free up London\u2019s Transport Network for the NHS and key workers who are protecting sick and vulnerable people across the capital.<\/p>\n

\u201cSupporting the NHS and protecting lives is the sole priority at present, our teams can return to helping build our great capital when this crisis abates.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don \u2018O Sullivan, chief executive of Galliard, added: \u201cDespite the confusing and conflicting messages from Central Government and the London Mayor\u2019s office; we are a London business and we are taking this action in support of our world-class superheroes in the NHS, as they take on the fight of their lives to keep us safe.<\/p>\n

“This should be the priority for all of us today.\u201d<\/p>\n
