One Manchester<\/a> and Manchester City Council<\/a> will deliver 139 new affordable homes using Passivhaus techniques to lower the carbon footprint<\/h2>\n

The partly-vacant 1.2ha brownfield site<\/a> (between Dulverton Street and Droylsden Road) will see 100 low-carbon one and two-bed apartments and 39 semi-detached family homes, with private gardens, that will be split equally between social rent and affordable rent.<\/p>\n

The homes will feature intelligent design and build methods, using Passivhaus techniques<\/a>, to lower the carbon footprint of the scheme and support the council\u2019s ambition to become a zero-carbon city by 2038.<\/p>\n

The ground floor of the apartment building will also include mixed-use commercial and community opportunities.<\/p>\n

The location of the scheme ensures that the homes will be highly accessible, close to both Newton Heath tram stop and bus routes into the city centre. This will reduce the need for vehicles for residents. The project hopes to start on-site construction later this year, subject to planning approval.<\/p>\n

Supporting the council in meeting their carbon targets<\/h3>\n

Councillor Suzanne Richards, Manchester City Council\u2019s<\/a> executive member for housing and regeneration,\u00a0said: \u201cThis is another brilliant example of partnership working between the Council and One Manchester, using Council land and their development acumen to deliver low carbon, affordable homes for Manchester.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is exactly what we need to be doing to meet our target to deliver at least 6,400 affordable homes up to 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis sort of partnership will continue as we work to increase home building across the city, along with the creation of a Council-led housing delivery company that will ensure we are using the land resources at our disposal to deliver as much housing as possible for Manchester people.\u201d<\/p>\n

David Williams, executive director of assets and growth at One Manchester, added: \u201cWe\u2019re proud to be partnering with the council on another scheme, which will see new, affordable homes developed in Newton Heath.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis scheme is part of our larger programme to provide new, low carbon properties in the heart of Manchester, supporting both local people to access affordable homes, and supporting the council in meeting their carbon targets.\u201d<\/p>\n
