{"id":74728,"date":"2020-04-09T11:39:33","date_gmt":"2020-04-09T10:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=74728"},"modified":"2020-04-09T11:39:33","modified_gmt":"2020-04-09T10:39:33","slug":"freelancers-earnings-covid19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/freelancers-earnings-covid19\/74728\/","title":{"rendered":"Freelance earnings drop as coronavirus hits construction sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Average earnings for freelancers fell by 2.9% last month as the impact of coronavirus started to filter through to construction sites, according to the latest figures by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hudsoncontract.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hudson Contract<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Analysis of payroll data for more than 2,200 construction companies in England and Wales shows a weekly average of \u00a3897 for freelancers in March, down from \u00a3924 in February.<\/p>\n<p>The government imposed a lockdown on 23 March 23 has said the construction sector can continue to work under new \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/covid-19-site-procedures\/73750\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Site Operating Procedures<\/a>\u2019 developed by the Construction Leadership Council.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Anfield, managing director of Hudson Contract, said: \u201cOur thoughts first and foremost are with those construction workers and their families who have been affected by this terrible virus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are closely monitoring the impact on the industry by speaking to our clients and through our bellwether pay trends data. Essential infrastructure and utility repair work is continuing but planned upgrades are stuttering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWork on government and privately funded projects stopped whilst the main contractors and our clients took stock and worked on safe working methods.
