{"id":74953,"date":"2020-04-17T08:26:56","date_gmt":"2020-04-17T07:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=74953"},"modified":"2020-04-17T08:26:56","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T07:26:56","slug":"social-housing-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-technology-news\/social-housing-covid-19\/74953\/","title":{"rendered":"Social housing providers use AR to minimise COVID-19 risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elha.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">East Lothian Housing Association<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mcp.community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MCP Property Services<\/a> have introduced innovative technology that supports residents, whilst reducing face-to-face contact during the coronavirus pandemic<\/h2>\n<p>The new \u2018Remote Assistance Capability\u2019 has been developed by Totalmobile and allows the organisations\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/housing-association-augmented-reality\/74659\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">housing maintenance and repair<\/a> specialists to create a live video stream which is accessed by both the technical support officer and the resident, amid COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>The two individuals can then remotely collaborate to identify and discuss maintenance requirements, and in the case of simple issues, the officer is able to provide live instructions so the resident can resolve it themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Officers can also augment the video feed by pausing, capturing images and annotating instructions to further enhance the support and guidance provided.<\/p>\n<p>East Lothian Housing Association, MCP Property Services and Totalmobile have trialled and deployed the solution to reduce unnecessary scheduled visits, thereby minimising contact between employees and residents during COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s estimated the system will enable the organisations to resolve 10% of issues remotely, remove 80% of scheduled inspection visits and increase first-time fixes by 50%.<\/p>\n<h3>Protect the wellbeing of residents<\/h3>\n<p>Duncan Mackay, managing director of R3 Repairs at East Lothian Housing Association, said: \u201cWe\u2019ve been working hard with Totalmobile to deploy this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/i-con-initiative\/74881\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">major innovation<\/a> as quickly as possible so we can protect the wellbeing of residents and our employees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur team covers a vast patch from Fife to Berwick and the Borders. The ability to deliver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/holosite-construction\/72774\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">virtual technical support<\/a> directly to the customer or to operatives on site will drive real savings and let us help remote residents much more effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Matt Clark, managing director of MCP Property Services, commented: \u201cWorking with Totalmobile means we can constantly innovate for customers, delivering solutions like this at breakneck speed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can now be certain that a call-out is essential before sending someone on site.
