Construction work is set to restart on the former Victoria Carpets Sports Ground in Kidderminster after work was halted due to Covid-19<\/h2>\n

The \u00a38m affordable housing scheme at the former Victoria Carpets Sports Ground was close to \u2018topping out\u2019 the first tranche of new homes prior to the Covid-19 lockdown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Living Space Housing<\/a> sourced the land, secured planning and is constructing the scheme for affordable housing provider Stonewater<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Social distancing and hygiene<\/h3>\n

Steve Davies, managing director of Living Space Housing, said: \u201cConstruction work had been moving on at pace here prior to all work being paused when the prime minister announced the UK was on lockdown.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur team has worked extremely hard over the past month to understand the impact of Covid-19 across our whole supply chain and to ensure all guidance regarding social distancing and hygiene<\/a> can be adhered to.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted that with Stonewater\u2019s blessing, we can now recommence work and deliver these 48 much-needed affordable homes to the Kidderminster housing market.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davies added: \u201cThis expansive scheme has driven us to set up the extensive supply chain we now have in place across Living Space\u2019s development portfolio. We are very grateful for the support from our subcontractors, consultants and the team at Stonewater at this unprecedented time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Matt Crucefix, director of development (West) at Stonewater, added: \u201cWe\u2019re pleased that we\u2019re able to continue work at the former Victoria Carpets Sports Ground. Our number one priority has always been, and will always be, the health and wellbeing of our customers and colleagues.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have endeavoured to, where safe and within government guidelines<\/a>, to continue with developing the much-needed and affordable homes that will help to reduce the housing crisis in high demand areas like Kidderminster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Affordable housing scheme<\/h3>\n

The previously derelict former Victoria Carpets Sports Ground site is located off Spennells Valley Road and neighbours Kidderminster Golf Course. Once completed, 60% of the homes will be available for affordable rent, with the remainder available to buy through Stonewater\u2019s shared ownership scheme.<\/p>\n

The developable area is enclosed by mature trees and the new homes are being constructed using two complementary types of red brick, as well as render. The properties will be surrounded by public open space and a newly created ecological area.<\/p>\n
