{"id":75221,"date":"2020-04-23T10:29:03","date_gmt":"2020-04-23T09:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=75221"},"modified":"2020-04-23T10:29:03","modified_gmt":"2020-04-23T09:29:03","slug":"adjudication-option-for-smes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/adjudication-option-for-smes\/75221\/","title":{"rendered":"RICS releases low cost adjudication option for construction SMEs"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rics.org\/uk\/products\/dispute-resolution-service\/drs-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RICS Dispute Resolution Service<\/a> (DRS) implemented the LVD MAP adjudication service under the <a href=\"http:\/\/cic.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Industry Council<\/a> (CIC) rules to make adjudication more affordable for smaller construction firms and SMEs<\/h2>\n<p>To assist SMEs, RICS DRS has this week implemented a summary adjudication service for claims below \u00a320,000. The aim will be to deliver a summary decision, with outline reasons only, within fourteen days of referral.<\/p>\n<p>DRS received feedback from the industry that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/construction-sites-lockdown\/73725\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19 crisis<\/a> is impacting even more severely on the smaller end of the market than it had first realised. There are many contractors who are just not being paid, and who cannot afford even the reduced cost of this process.<\/p>\n<p>There will be no inspection or site visit involved and the fee will be capped at \u00a31000 + VAT.<\/p>\n<p>If either party wants full reasons, they will be able, at their own expense, to ask the adjudicator to produce them.
