Farrans<\/a> has handed over three additional inpatient wards on the Altnagelvin North Wing Hospital project in Derry-Londonderry<\/h2>\n

The construction of these inpatient wards for the Western Health & Social Care Trust<\/a> was \u2018fast-tracked\u2019 ahead of schedule, as part of the trust\u2019s plan to manage the Covid-19<\/a> \u2018surge\u2019 capacity at the hospital.<\/p>\n

The inpatient wards were originally scheduled for completion on 8 June but were advanced ahead of schedule to provide additional bed space in the hospital.<\/p>\n

Glenn Gilmore, Farrans regional director on the project, said: \u201cI would personally like to thank our own site staff and supply chain for their drive and determination to assist with delivering this key project for the Western Trust.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are particularly unprecedented and challenging times for the construction industry<\/a> in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

\u201cFarrans as a company is proud of everyone involved in the project for the commitment and dedication they have shown to deliver these ward spaces ahead of programme and play our part to assist our NHS frontline services in the fight against Covid-19.\u201d<\/p>\n

Invaluable clinical care space<\/h3>\n

\u201cI would like to thank everyone involved for the significant effort undertaken to bring this invaluable space into operation as quickly as possible,\u201d said Dr Anne Kilgallen, Western Trust chief executive.<\/p>\n

\u201cParticular thanks goes to Farrans Construction, their subcontractors and supply chain, for their support and commitment to delivering this for the hospital, in the face of extreme challenges to the construction sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI would also like to thank the design team, led by HLM Architects<\/a>, CPD Health project team and the Trust\u2019s own strategic capital development team, for all their hard work and personal efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn what are very demanding times, the three new wards will allow us to provide clinical care and treatment to our patients in single ensuite rooms. This will improve the quality and experience for our patients, whilst supporting staff in their roles.\u201d<\/p>\n
