{"id":75679,"date":"2020-05-01T10:36:41","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T09:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=75679"},"modified":"2020-05-01T10:36:41","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T09:36:41","slug":"coronavirus-site-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/coronavirus-site-safety\/75679\/","title":{"rendered":"New guides assist engineering contractors working in close proximity"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebesa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BESA<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eca.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ECA<\/a> have joined forces to develop two new guides to help contractors to manage coronavirus-related issues on site<\/h2>\n<p>The new coronavirus site safety guides provide sector-relevant guidance for engineering and building services contractors working across construction and FM in \u2018specific environments\u2019 (where there may be higher risk of Covid-19 transmission) and \u2018close proximity working\u2019 (less than 2m).<\/p>\n<h3>The new coronavirus site safety guides:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Align with the measures shown in the Construction Leadership Council \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/site-operating-procedures\/74832\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Site Operating Procedures<\/a>\u2019, based on guidance from Public Health England;<\/li>\n<li>Do not recommend the deployment of respiratory protective equipment (RPE) for general site activities, most notably where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/social-distancing-construction\/74432\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social distancing<\/a> is possible; and<\/li>\n<li>Recommend that any decision to deploy RPE in site-specific situations should be based on risk assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The guides have been drawn up with the support of a Covid-19 expert panel made up of BESA and ECA safety practitioners.<\/p>\n<h3>Further guidance<\/h3>\n<p>BESA health &amp; safety advisor, Rebecca Crosland, said: \u201cIt is imperative that there is further guidance out there to help keep the industry safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe health, wellbeing and safety of everyone on site must be a priority during the Covid-19 health crisis.
