{"id":75715,"date":"2020-05-01T14:18:45","date_gmt":"2020-05-01T13:18:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=75715"},"modified":"2020-05-01T14:18:45","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T13:18:45","slug":"development-in-south-shield","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/development-in-south-shield\/75715\/","title":{"rendered":"South Shields residential scheme takes major step forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.southtyneside.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">South Tyneside Council\u2019s<\/a> cabinet has approved the appointment of a residential development partner to transform docks and brownfield land at Holborn into a living, working and entertainment quarter<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.keepmoat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Keepmoat<\/a>, working in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cussins.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cussins<\/a>, has been appointed as the development partner to deliver 365 homes on the multi-million-pound residential development, following a tender exercise.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"urzs-6xPq5E\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Exciting plans for Holborn\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/urzs-6xPq5E?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The area is already home to schemes such as Harton Quays Park, business centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/riverside-quarter-south-tyneside\/54100\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">One Trinity Green and Trinity South<\/a> residential development.<\/p>\n<p>The site is currently split-level with a failing quay edge wall, and a comprehensive engineering strategy will renew the quay edge, overcome serious flooding issues and\u00a0create a gentle slope from Commercial Road to the Tyne.<\/p>\n<p>A new river edge promenade will be created and the riverside\u2019s industrial history will be preserved with the renovation of three of the former dry docks.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme has secured \u00a34.2m of grant funding from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/homes-england-funds-first-homes-through-local-authority-accelerated-construction-programme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Homes England Local Authorithy Accelerated Construction fund<\/a>, as well as \u00a39.4m from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northeastlep.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">North East Local Enterprise Partnership<\/a> (LEP) for the delivery of a future phase of office accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>A 4.5-hectare section of the 10.5-hectare site was awarded Enterprise Zone status after a successful bid supported by the Local Enterprise Partnership.
