{"id":75972,"date":"2020-05-07T14:19:09","date_gmt":"2020-05-07T13:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=75972"},"modified":"2020-05-07T14:19:09","modified_gmt":"2020-05-07T13:19:09","slug":"tradespeople-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/tradespeople-construction\/75972\/","title":{"rendered":"Building firms ask tradespeople to cut rates by up to 30%"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Demand for labour on construction sites across the UK decreased by 70% in April, as building firms ask tradespeople to cut their rates by 10-30%, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hudsoncontract.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hudson Contract<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Hudson Contract, which provides payroll services to more than 2,200 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/construction-smes-coronavirus\/74251\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">construction SMEs<\/a>, said more sites are reopening with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/social-distancing-construction\/74432\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social distancing<\/a> measures but building firms are asking tradespeople to cut their rates by 10-30% to share the costs of reduced output.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Anfield, managing director, said: \u201cThe number of people we paid dropped by up to 70% in the space of three weeks last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe number is steadily rising again as more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/subcontractors-financial-pressures\/75915\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sites reopen<\/a> with many clients telling us they are going back to work on Monday, May 11.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConstruction output will be lower and costs will be higher as firms figure out ways for people to work safely on site.
