{"id":76235,"date":"2020-05-14T13:34:38","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T12:34:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=76235"},"modified":"2020-05-14T13:34:45","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T12:34:45","slug":"architects-workloads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/architects-workloads\/76235\/","title":{"rendered":"Architects workload prospects hit all-time low, says RIBA report"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>84% of architects expect their workload to fall in the next three months, as workloads drop by 33% compared with last year, according to the latest RIBA Future Trends survey<\/h2>\n<p>The latest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.architecture.com\/knowledge-and-resources\/resources-landing-page\/future-trends-survey-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RIBA Future Trends survey results<\/a>\u00a0reveal the worsening impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on architects and the construction industry.<\/p>\n<p>During April 2020, the RIBA Future Trends Workload Index dropped to an historic low, with a balance figure of -82.<\/p>\n<p>84% of architects expect their workload to fall in the next three months with balance figures ranging from -80 for small practices to -100 for large practices.<\/p>\n<p>All work sectors and all regions also highlighted a significant drop in confidence. The private housing sector fell furthest from -7 to -72; the commercial sector fell from -5 to -60 and the community sector fell from -8 to -50.<\/p>\n<p>The staffing Index also experienced the largest monthly drop on record from 0 to -30 with 31% of practices saying they expected to employ fewer full-time staff in the next three months. 68% said they expect staffing levels to stay the same.<\/p>\n<h4>Survey results also revealed:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>39% of projects have been put on hold since the 1 March<\/li>\n<li>Of the projects that remain active, 21% are at stages 5 or 6 of the RIBA Plan of Work \u2013 so vulnerable to site restriction<\/li>\n<li>14% of practice architectural staff have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/furlough-scheme-extended\/76130\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">furloughed<\/a><\/li>\n<li>29% of small practice staff (1 &#8211; 10 staff) are working fewer hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u2018A crisis like no other\u2019<\/h3>\n<p>RIBA executive director professional Services,\u00a0Adrian Dobson, said: \u201cThis is a crisis is like no other.
