{"id":76577,"date":"2020-05-22T09:29:42","date_gmt":"2020-05-22T08:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=76577"},"modified":"2020-05-22T09:29:42","modified_gmt":"2020-05-22T08:29:42","slug":"scottish-government-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/scottish-government-construction\/76577\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish Government reveals plans for phased return of construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.scot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scottish Government<\/a> has announced tentative steps to get the construction sector in Scotland back to work from 28 May<\/h2>\n<p>Yesterday (21 May), first minister Nicola Sturgeon, published a route map to take Scotland through and out of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/covid-19-construction-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Covid crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sturgeon revealed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/return-to-construction-work\/76214\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cautious return<\/a> for construction workers.<\/p>\n<p>Construction Scotland has been working with the Scottish Government to provide a cautious approach to resuming site working with a clear set of review points.<\/p>\n<h3>Sturgeon outlined six phases for returning to construction work, these include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Phase 1 \u2013 planning<\/li>\n<li>Phase 2 \u2013 Covid-19 pre-start site prep<\/li>\n<li>Phase 3 \u2013 \u2018soft start\u2019 to site works (where physical distancing can be maintained)<\/li>\n<li>Phase 4 \u2013 steady-state operation (where physical distancing can be maintained)<\/li>\n<li>Phase 5 \u2013 steady-state operation (where physical distancing can be maintained and\/or with PPE use)<\/li>\n<li>Phase 6 \u2013 increasing density\/productivity with experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>First minister Nicola Sturgeon, said: \u201cThe construction industry will be able to carefully implement steps 1 and 2 of its 6 step restart plan which it has developed with us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, let me be clear that there must be genuine partnership with trade unions \u2013 this can only be done if it is done safely.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Industry reaction<\/h3>\n<p>Vaughan Hart, managing director of forum member the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottish-building.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scottish Building Federation<\/a>, commented: \u201cThe shutdown in Scotland has been one of the biggest challenges the sector has ever faced and, while we wholeheartedly welcome the return to work, it must be carried out in the proper manner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis means that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/health-safety-news\/health-and-safety-construction-2\/76079\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">health and safety<\/a> of operatives is paramount, and the correct guidance and procedures must be adhered to at every phase of the proposed route map.
