{"id":76878,"date":"2020-05-29T11:39:48","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T10:39:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=76878"},"modified":"2020-05-29T15:40:50","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T14:40:50","slug":"talbot-gateway-regeneration-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/talbot-gateway-regeneration-scheme\/76878\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction work begins on Talbot Gateway regeneration scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The next phase of Blackpool\u2019s\u00a0town centre\u00a0regeneration is set to get underway in the first week of June as contractors prepare to start on site at Talbot Gateway<\/h2>\n<p>This phase of the Talbot Gateway development will see the demolition of the existing Wilko store, the completion of the new tramway interchange at Blackpool North Station, a new underpass, Holiday Inn hotel and restaurant, and new retail outlets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.robertson.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robertson Construction Group<\/a> has\u00a0been appointed jointly by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackpool.gov.uk\/Home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Blackpool Council<\/a> and\u00a0development partner,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.musedevelopments.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Muse Developments<\/a> to\u00a0start work on Monday 1 June and will initially\u00a0undertake the demolition of the Wilko\u00a0store\u00a0and car park, which ceased trading\u00a0at the end of March.\u00a0Demolition and construction work\u00a0is\u00a0expected to take\u00a0around two years.<\/p>\n<h3>Phase two<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0start\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0demolition\u00a0marks\u00a0phase two of the Talbot Gateway project in Blackpool\u2019s Central Business District. The first phase saw the opening of Sainsbury\u2019s supermarket and the development of\u00a0offices,\u00a0which now accommodate more than 1,000 public and private-sector employees.<\/p>\n<h3>Schedule of construction work:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Demolition of Wilko\u2019s building, Talbot Road\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0June to December 2020<\/li>\n<li>Construction of the high street underpass\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0November 2020 to 30th\u00a0April 2021<\/li>\n<li>Construction of the Holiday Inn Hotel\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0October 2020 to April 2022<\/li>\n<li>Tram extension and track completion\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0January to May 2021<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All timings are subject to there being no further delays due to the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/global-construction-output\/75302\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Covid-19 crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Putting local people at the centre of the project<\/h3>\n<p>Dirk Pittaway, managing director, Robertson North West, said: \u201cTalbot Gateway\u2019s regeneration continues to gather pace and as a growing business in the region, we are thrilled to be playing our part.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Robertson has significant experience in the hotels&#8217; sector, and we will use that to deliver a facility that is best in class and something everyone in Blackpool can be proud of.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will work closely throughout with Blackpool Council and Muse Developments, who have both shown real commitment and drive in continuing to progress the project during recent months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Clear procedures, including social distancing, will be in place to ensure the safety of everyone involved on-site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will also put local people at the centre of the project to ensure the wider community can benefit.
