Henley Construct<\/a> has exchanged contracts to deliver 60 affordable homes for PA Housing<\/a> on the site of a former office building in Croydon<\/h2>\n

Henley Construct, part of the Henley Homes Group<\/a>, will deliver the affordable homes using modern methods of construction<\/a> and materials that are sympathetic to the local street scene and historic context of the conservation area.<\/p>\n

Designed by Maccreanor Lavington Architects<\/a>, the eight storey development will provide a collection of one, two and three bedroom affordable homes at the corner of Surrey Street and Matthews Yard.<\/p>\n

The location is at the entrance of a regular weekly street market that has been in operation since the 13th<\/sup>\u00a0century. The market will be able to remain operational during construction.<\/p>\n

Aaron Usmani, Henley\u2019s construction director, said: \u201cWe look forward to working on this site in Croydon, bringing much-needed affordable housing<\/a> to the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile lockdown is still in process we will be working with strict social distancing in place on this site to get the work underway \u2013 our employees\u2019 health is paramount.<\/p>\n

\u201cHenley Construct has a first-class track record in delivering projects of this nature. Quality and detail are critically important to us regardless of tenure \u2013 people deserve high quality housing regardless of whether they are renting or buying.\u201d<\/p>\n

Historical site<\/h3>\n

Respecting the historic context of the site, the building facades along Surrey Street are divided vertically to provide rhythm of smaller scale buildings. A vertical rhythm using different colours and textures of brickwork is introduced utilising recessed shadow gaps, decorative spandrels and continuous vertical reveals in order to provide a finer grain and modulation to the facade.<\/p>\n

Many of the affordable homes will feature double or triple aspects with balconies or private roof terraces. Six apartments will be wheelchair accessible<\/a>.<\/p>\n

James Lambert, development Consultant for PA Housing, added: \u201cThis development sits in a core town centre location where affordable housing is needed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe look forward to working with Henley on the project and are delighted that work will start soon in order to fulfil the affordability need in the area \u2013 with further schemes in the pipeline.\u201d<\/p>\n

Demolition works are due to start imminently with social distancing in place due to the current Covid-19 situation.<\/p>\n

The development is set for completion in late 2021.<\/p>\n
