{"id":76994,"date":"2020-04-23T10:24:28","date_gmt":"2020-04-23T09:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=76994"},"modified":"2020-06-02T11:28:45","modified_gmt":"2020-06-02T10:28:45","slug":"covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/covid-19\/76994\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 &#8211; An update from the HSE (Health &#038; Safety Executive)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-xs-12\">\n<h2>The Access Group discuss the latest advice from the HSE on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and how that looks in a workplace environment<\/h2>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">With the world in lockdown, all eyes are beginning to look to the future and what that might look like over the coming months.\u00a0 One area which will have a spotlight on it more than ever before is Health &amp; Safety.\u00a0 Therefore, we wanted to bring to you the latest advice from the HSE on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and how that looks in a workplace environment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12\">\n<div class=\"blog-column\">\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">*Please note this information has been taken from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theaccessgroup.com\/hse.gov.uk\">hse.gov.uk<\/a>\u00a0but does not replace or supersede any up-to-date information given on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theaccessgroup.com\/GOV.UK\">GOV.UK<\/a>\u00a0where the DHSC and PHE are leading the UK government response to the outbreak.<\/p>\n<h3>Regulatory Activity During the Outbreak<\/h3>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">The HSE themselves have mobilised their workforce to work remotely and so here are some of the consequences:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"selectionShareable\">HSE has suspended targeted inspection activity of high-risk industries that are not part of the major hazard sectors, including construction and manufacturing.<\/li>\n<li class=\"selectionShareable\">All offshore oil and gas and onshore chemical, explosive and microbiological industry inspections have been paused.<\/li>\n<li class=\"selectionShareable\">Any regulatory activities that do not require site visits will continue as normally as possible \u2013 for example, approvals and authorisation work for biocides and pesticides, statutory permissioning, thorough reviews etc.<\/li>\n<li class=\"selectionShareable\">Investigation of all work-related deaths will continue across all sectors. The most serious major injuries, dangerous occurrences and reported concerns from the workforce or public where there is exposure to risks from work activities will also still be investigated and action will be taken to secure compliance with the law.<\/li>\n<li class=\"selectionShareable\">As much work as possible will be undertaken remotely but the HSE will still mobilise to site, including offshore, where it is necessary to provide public assurance that hazards are being effectively managed and laws are being complied with. In such cases, social distancing guidelines will be followed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>RIDDOR Reporting of COVID-19<\/h3>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR) saw a huge shift in the number of incidents that had to be reported to the HSE.\u00a0 These are the current guidelines relating to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">A report under RIDDOR must be submitted:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"selectionShareable\">If an unintended incident at work has led to someone\u2019s possible or actual exposure to coronavirus. This would be classified as a dangerous occurrence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">An example of this would be if a lab worker accidentally smashed a vial containing coronavirus thus leading to potential exposure.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"selectionShareable\">If a worker has a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 and there is evidence that it\u2019s likely to have been contracted by exposure at work.
