As plaster shortages continue to plague the construction industry, the BMF<\/a> and the Construction Products Association<\/a> have joined forces to support the sector<\/h2>\n

The Builders Merchant Federation (BMF) and the CPA are keeping a watching brief on plaster shortages, in a cross-industry collaboration to support the sector\u2019s road to recovery<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As the joint leaders of the Construction Leadership Council<\/a> (CLC) product availability group, BMF and CPA evaluated the views of merchants, manufacturers, housebuilders and contractors to discuss the key issues.<\/p>\n

Plaster shortages \u2018continues to be challenging\u2019<\/h3>\n

John Newcomb, CEO of the BMF, said: \u201cThe latest information yesterday [11 June] shows that plaster continues to be challenging in terms of supply.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently the biggest issue is significant replenishment demand in the network.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also had reports of panic buying of plaster, which is also having an impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, production output is now performing ahead of plan, and it was reported by some in the group that issues with supply are easing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are now taking steps to reassure the industry that, with manufacturing now in place to a high output, the situation is improving and will be resolved in the weeks ahead.<\/p>\n

Peter Caplehorn, CEO of the CPA, added: \u201cWe all recognise it is absolutely vital that, as we take the road to recovery, the construction industry has the products it needs, and we\u2019ll continue to use information and data-driven intelligence to act on issues as they arise.\u201d<\/p>\n

CLC\u2019s product availability group<\/h3>\n

Set-up to monitor the building products<\/a> supply chain to meet increasing demand in the re-opening period, the CLC\u2019s product availability group includes the BMF\u2019s five largest merchant members, along with five of the CPA\u2019s largest manufacturing members.<\/p>\n
