{"id":77714,"date":"2020-06-16T11:11:50","date_gmt":"2020-06-16T10:11:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=77714"},"modified":"2020-06-16T11:11:50","modified_gmt":"2020-06-16T10:11:50","slug":"adoption-of-exoskeletons-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/construction-technology-news\/adoption-of-exoskeletons-uk\/77714\/","title":{"rendered":"CSIC to host webinar to boost adoption of exoskeletons"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs-ic.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Scotland Innovation Centre<\/a> (CSIC) is part of an international team hosting a webinar to launch a new initiative that aims to accelerate the adoption of exoskeletons in construction and manufacturing SMEs<\/h2>\n<p>The European project, <a href=\"https:\/\/northsearegion.eu\/exskallerate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EXSKALLERATE<\/a>, which is co-funded by the Interreg North Sea Region Programme 2014-2020,\u00a0will over the next three years enhance SME competitiveness and occupational health by transforming the North Sea Region into a leading exoskeleton ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place on 25 June, 2-3pm, and participants will hear from Dr Michiel de Looze of TNO who will explain how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/road-workers-exoskeleton\/73353\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exoskeleton adoption<\/a> could benefit companies and address their potential power to reduce workload.<\/p>\n<p>It is believed that as many as 44 million workers in the European Union (EU) are affected by workplace-related musculoskeletal disorders, resulting in significant costs to the industry through absence and reduced productivity.<\/p>\n<p>According to research conducted by the EXSKALLERATE partners, exoskeleton use could alleviate 10-40% of muscle peak loads for passive exoskeletons, and up to 80% for active.<\/p>\n<h3>Improving safety and efficiency<\/h3>\n<p>Anton Duisterwinkel, coordinator of EXSKALLERATE at InnovationQuarter, said: \u201cPeople have to work for longer periods in our ageing society.
