Galliford Try<\/a> has secured a \u00a320m contract from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation<\/a> (DIO) to deliver Typhoon infrastructure at RAF Lossiemouth<\/h2>\n

The Typhoon infrastructure at RAF Lossiemouth will house Number IX (Bomber) Squadron in facilities that are fit for purpose, enabling them to deliver in their role as a Typhoon Aggressor Squadron.<\/p>\n

The re-role from Tornado to Typhoon, and move from\u00a0RAF\u00a0Marham to\u00a0RAF\u00a0Lossiemouth, was announced in the Strategic Defence<\/a> and Security Review 2015.<\/p>\n

The work will involve the refurbishment of an existing hangar and construction of new technical and storage facilities. It forms part of a wider redevelopment of\u00a0RAF\u00a0Lossiemouth which also includes a refurbished runway, facilities for the\u00a0RAF\u2019s fleet of Poseidon MRA Mk. 1 sub-hunters, new and improved accommodation, and much more.<\/p>\n

RAF\u00a0Lossiemouth is now home to four Squadrons of Typhoons which hold the Quick Reaction Alert role, Securing the Skies of the United Kingdom every minute of every day. Aircraft could be launched at a moment\u2019s notice to intercept unidentified aircraft, or aircraft which may pose a threat.<\/p>\n

RAF\u00a0Lossiemouth covers the north of the UK including Scotland, while\u00a0RAF\u00a0Coningsby covers the south.<\/p>\n

The Typhoon is a versatile multi-role combat aircraft involved in operations around the world, including Lithuania where 6 Squadron from\u00a0RAF\u00a0Lossiemouth are deployed on\u00a0NATO\u00a0Baltic Air Policing.<\/p>\n

Once fully established in their new facilities, IX(B) Squadron will be the\u00a0RAF\u2019s dedicated fourth-generation Aggressors. This involves simulating the tactics, threats, and procedures of our adversaries to create the best training environment for Royal Air Force pilots.<\/p>\n

\u2018Next-generation\u2019 fighter and maritime patrol base<\/h3>\n

Margaret Jesson, DIO\u2019s project manager, said: \u201cIt\u2019s exciting to have reached this stage of the project and we are looking forward to continuing to work with our colleagues at\u00a0RAF\u00a0Lossiemouth and Galliford Try to provide some fantastic facilities for these Typhoon pilots and ground crew.\u201d<\/p>\n

Group captain Chris Layden, station commander\u00a0RAF\u00a0Lossiemouth, commented: \u201cThis is great news for the Station, for Moray, and for the\u00a0RAF.<\/p>\n

\u201cDefence\u2019s sustained investment in\u00a0RAF\u00a0Lossiemouth continues to transform us into a next-generation fighter and maritime patrol base, ready to secure the UK\u2019s skies and seas for many years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether with our previous experience at\u00a0RAF\u00a0Marham and\u00a0RAF\u00a0Valley we are building a strong track record in the air station sector, and look forward to providing the personnel at Lossiemouth with the high-quality facilities they depend on.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Typhoon infrastructure at RAF Lossiemouth work will start later this summer and is expected to take around two years.<\/p>\n
