{"id":78218,"date":"2020-06-26T07:00:08","date_gmt":"2020-06-26T06:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=78218"},"modified":"2020-06-25T14:52:26","modified_gmt":"2020-06-25T13:52:26","slug":"modern-methods-of-construction-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/mmc-news\/modern-methods-of-construction-5\/78218\/","title":{"rendered":"Actis welcomes Hackitt&#8217;s call to increase offsite manufacturing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Modern Methods of Construction play a vital role in ensuring the &#8216;new normal&#8217; is greener and more efficient, according to Dame Judith Hackitt and construction minister Nadhim Zahawi<\/h2>\n<p>While the past three months have been undeniably distressing and challenging for everyone on a personal and economic level, the drive to ramp up Modern Methods of Construction as part of a recovery package has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/modular-construction-news\/modern-methods-of-construction-covid\/77362\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">welcomed by Actis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hackitt and Zahawi were among guest speakers at the latest Town Hall webinar run by construction software specialist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.letsbuild.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Let&#8217;s Build<\/a> on how the industry will recover from the Covid-19 crisis.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s webinar follows the publication earlier this month of the\u00a0Construction Leadership Council&#8217;s &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/construction-roadmap-to-recovery\/76951\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Roadmap to Recovery<\/a>&#8216;. The plan&#8217;s three-phase approach concludes with a \u2018reinvention&#8217; element to take place over the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>This embrace, among other factors, increased use of Modern Methods of Construction and indeed cites a presumption towards offsite.<\/p>\n<h3>Building the economy<\/h3>\n<p>Construction minister Nadhim Zahawi, speaking at the webinar, said: &#8220;The construction industry has a vital role to play in building the economy of the future. We want to embed net-zero carbon into housing developments.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dame Judith Hackitt, commented: &#8220;There are good opportunities for the industry to transform itself. We need to change the culture in construction. Actions taken during this crisis show the industry can adapt.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">&#8220;There is a capacity for change. This vehicle is already moving.
