{"id":78418,"date":"2020-06-30T11:16:29","date_gmt":"2020-06-30T10:16:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=78418"},"modified":"2020-06-30T11:16:29","modified_gmt":"2020-06-30T10:16:29","slug":"construction-skills-fund-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/construction-skills-fund-scheme\/78418\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction Skills Fund scheme extended for another year"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>CITB\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/about-citb\/partnerships-and-initiatives\/construction-skills-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Skills Fund<\/a> (CSF) delivering site-ready learners for the industry has been rewarded with a 12-month extension by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department for Education<\/a> (DfE)<\/h2>\n<p>More than 13,200 learners to date have passed through 23 DfE-funded learning hubs and emerged employment and site ready. Now, it is investing an additional \u00a37.5m, with 14 hubs successful in their bids to CITB.<\/p>\n<p>The CITB forms a key part of its newly launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/citb-sets-out-plan\/78193\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Skills Stability Plan<\/a> to help the industry recover from the effects of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>With the construction industry hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis, it\u2019s more important than ever that the sector is ready to attract new talent. The government has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/site-operating-procedures-released\/76379\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eased the rules<\/a> to take account of Covid-19, in particular the stipulation on when evidence of sustained employment by Construction Skills Fund learners will be required.<\/p>\n<h3>Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>All training on the new contract must be completed by 31 March 2021 with 6,000 employment and site ready and 3,000 sustained jobs evidenced by Sept 2021.<\/p>\n<p>To the end of May 2020, 3,327 learners had been placed into jobs, including 805 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/construction-apprenticeships\/78111\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">apprentices<\/a>. 90% of learners were unemployed when they joined the hubs, demonstrating the positive impact being made by CSF across the whole community.<\/p>\n<p>Over 5,000 learners are new to construction having previously worked in other sectors and 7,000 from groups which have traditionally been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/construction-gender-equality\/59801\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">under-represented in the industry<\/a> \u2013 including women, the disabled, and black, Asian and minority ethnic people.<\/p>\n<h3>A foot in the door<\/h3>\n<p>CITB director of policy and strategy, Steve Radley, said: \u201cCSF has now almost reached its target of 13,500 employment and site-ready people, despite the impact of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a fantastic achievement, and it\u2019s great news that government wants to build on it.
