District lines.<\/p>\n<p>The proposals, developed in partnership with Transport for London (TfL) and designed by architect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsh-p.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rogers Stirk Harbour\u00a0+ Partners<\/a>, follow extensive consultation with local residents and other key stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed planning application will be available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rbkc.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea\u2019s<\/a> planning and building control portal.<\/p>\n<p>South Kensington Tube station plans have been carefully considered in order to respect, and respond to, the unique and important heritage of the area, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/restoring-historic-buildings\/61212\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">historic building<\/a> specialist Julian Harrap Architects working on heritage elements of the scheme.<\/p>\n<h3>The South Kensington Tube station plans aim to:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Sensitively repair and enhance the Grade-II listed South Kensington station, restoring the historic arcade and providing new retail opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Incorporate 50 homes around the station, including 35% on-site affordable<\/li>\n<li>Develop a four-storey building at the front of the station, referred to as \u2018The Bullnose\u2019 that will give the station an enhanced presence at the heart of South Kensington<\/li>\n<li>Provide a new station entrance on Thurloe Street<\/li>\n<li>Provide step free access to the ticket hall and completing the delivery of step free access to the Circle and District line platforms as well as providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/accessibility-authenticity\/75968\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">better accessibility<\/a> into the subway from the station.<\/li>\n<li>Complement TfL\u2019s separate station enhancement plans that received listed building consent from the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in 2018.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Native Land was selected by TfL as its development partner in 2018 for the redevelopment of the land and buildings around South Kensington Station.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-78521 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-1024x602.jpg\" alt=\"South Kensington tube station,\" width=\"696\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-1024x602.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-300x176.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-768x452.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-696x409.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-1068x628.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-714x420.jpg 714w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-1920x1129.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial-610x359.jpg 610w, https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/SKS-aerial.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Respecting the unique historical context<\/h3>\n<p>Alasdair Nicholls, chief executive Native Land, said:\u00a0\u201cOur proposals will provide contemporary architecture of the highest quality that respects its unique historical context, providing new homes, including 35% <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/challenge-affordable-housing\/60752\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">affordable housing<\/a>, and a contemporary range of shops, restaurants and workspaces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have listened carefully to feedback on our plans and believe this is a considered scheme that responds sensitively to its context.
