{"id":78623,"date":"2020-07-03T07:00:48","date_gmt":"2020-07-03T06:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=78623"},"modified":"2020-07-02T14:43:39","modified_gmt":"2020-07-02T13:43:39","slug":"oxfordshire-garden-village","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/oxfordshire-garden-village\/78623\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans in for \u201821st century\u2019 Oxfordshire Garden Village"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Plans for the Oxfordshire Garden Village in West Oxfordshire have been lodged by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grosvenor.com\/our-businesses\/grosvenor-britain-ireland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grosvenor Britain &amp; Ireland<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>The Oxfordshire Garden Village masterplan sets out provision for 2,200 homes, new primary and secondary schools, sports facilities, parks, allotments and 57,000 sq m of employment space.\u00a0The new employment park is designed in particular to attract advanced manufacturing businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The site was one of 14 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/growth-of-uk-garden-villages\/43723\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">garden villages<\/a> endorsed by the UK Government in 2017 to help meet the UK\u2019s housing need.\u00a0Grosvenor was appointed in the same year by local landowners to bring forward a planning application for an inclusive and sustainable scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The project has aimed to establish a new benchmark for community engagement. Local residents and front-line service providers have been closely involved in the design process through a series of events, exhibitions and study tours of other award-winning developments.<\/p>\n<h3>A sustainable community<\/h3>\n<p>Oxfordshire Garden Village is the first new community outside London designed to act on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grosvenor.com\/our-businesses\/grosvenor-britain-ireland\/sustainability-at-grosvenor-britain-ireland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ambitious sustainability goals<\/a>\u00a0set last year by Grosvenor Britain &amp; Ireland to address the climate emergency.<\/p>\n<h4>Sustainability commitments include:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A net biodiversity gain will be achieved with 40% of the site remaining undeveloped, including just under 4 hectares of new woodland planted to preserve and improve natural habitats and capture carbon<\/li>\n<li>20% of the village\u2019s energy demand will be met using renewable sources. Land will be safeguarded for a smart energy hub to connect to renewable energy projects and for an electric vehicle charging station<\/li>\n<li>All homes will be energy efficient, with a focus on building fabric that outperforms current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/building-control-news\/building-regulations-fire\/75097\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Building Regulations<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The entire site will use electricity for heating and hot water to help save up to 80% of carbon emissions compared with gas heating<\/li>\n<li>Walking and cycling will be encouraged by a network of green, segregated routes linking homes and workplaces, including a dedicated cycleway to the local station.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Opportunities to design in further sustainability measures to help meet local aspirations around net-zero carbon will be explored through the build-out period for the development.<\/p>\n<p>Silvia Lazzerini, project director for strategic land at Grosvenor Britain &amp; Ireland, said:\u00a0\u201cThis application is the result of extensive dialogue with the community, council and stakeholders to make sure we understood and listened to local priorities and shaped our masterplan around them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Oxfordshire Garden Village presents a fantastic opportunity to deliver the homes that the area needs.\u00a0 It is also a chance to set a new benchmark for what a sustainable, deliverable development at scale can look like.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the outset our vision has been to create a new community which respects the natural environment \u2013 a place where people and nature can not only live alongside one another, but actually thrive together. This outline masterplan is an early step on that journey to establish a neighbourhood that will grow and strengthen over time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/aecom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AECOM<\/a> acts as planning consultant for the project, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.torltd.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Terence O\u2019Rourke<\/a> delivering design and masterplanning and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stantec.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stantec<\/a> providing engineering support.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mk-custom-module-container\">\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plans for the Oxfordshire Garden Village in West Oxfordshire have been lodged by Grosvenor Britain &#038;
