{"id":79317,"date":"2020-07-15T09:56:42","date_gmt":"2020-07-15T08:56:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=79317"},"modified":"2020-07-15T09:56:42","modified_gmt":"2020-07-15T08:56:42","slug":"sizewell-c-go-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/sizewell-c-go-ahead\/79317\/","title":{"rendered":"Industry urges government to give Sizewell C the go-ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Thirty-two companies and organisations, including some of the UK\u2019s biggest firms supporting clean energy, have come together to urge the government to give the major infrastructure project the green light<\/h2>\n<p>The consortium believes Sizewell C is a pre-packed stimulus project that will provide a major economic boost for the UK and set the country on the road to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/uks-infrastructure-pipeline\/78323\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">green recovery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The consortium intends to sign memorandums of understanding (MoU) with regions across the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/new-jobs-and-apprenticeships\/79050\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UK to guarantee jobs<\/a> and investment in the building.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 70% of contracts for Sizewell C will go to British-based businesses, securing the future of the nuclear supply chain and creating tens of thousands of jobs across the UK.<\/p>\n<h3>The consortium includes:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.assystem.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Assystem<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atkinsglobal.com\/en-gb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atkins<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.balfourbeattybailey.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Balfour Beatty Bailey<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bilfinger.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bilfinger<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cavendishnuclear.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cavendish Nuclear<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doosanbabcock.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Doosan Babcock<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edfenergy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">EDF<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacobs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jacobs<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laingorourke.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Laing O\u2019Rourke<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mottmac.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mott MacDonald<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macegroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mace<\/a>, as well as host of smaller businesses.<\/p>\n<p>It is also backed by some of the country\u2019s biggest trade unions including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gmb.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GMB<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/unitetheunion.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Unite Union<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/prospect.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prospect<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sizewell C will provide 3.2GW of always-on clean energy, enough to power 6 million homes.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/sizewell-c-nuclear-power\/76714\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">planning application<\/a> for the project was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate last month. As a replica of Hinkley Point C in Somerset, Sizewell C is expected to benefit from significant savings in construction costs.
