{"id":79468,"date":"2020-07-17T09:10:28","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T08:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=79468"},"modified":"2020-07-17T09:10:28","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T08:10:28","slug":"canary-wharf-north-quay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/canary-wharf-north-quay\/79468\/","title":{"rendered":"Canary Wharf Group submits North Quay masterplan"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/group.canarywharf.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canary Wharf Group<\/a> has revealed plans by architects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliesandmorrison.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Allies and Morrison<\/a> for a 3.8 million sq ft development on the North Quay site at Canary Wharf<\/h2>\n<p>The North Quay proposals have been submitted to the local planning authority, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.towerhamlets.gov.uk\/Home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London Borough of Tower Hamlets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The site, which is immediately adjacent to Crossrail\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/major-development-elizabeth-line-station\/63772\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new Elizabeth Line station<\/a> on the north side of Canary Wharf, will create a vibrant mixed-use district and accommodate up to 2.5 million sq ft of commercial office space and up to 1.6 million sq ft of residential space, within a flexible framework to suit the demands of future London.<\/p>\n<p>The project will incorporate CWG\u2019s commitment to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/modular-construction-news\/one-charter-street\/75657\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainable development<\/a> with all new homes net-zero carbon and climate-resilient. Office buildings will target <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breeam.com\/BREEAM2011SchemeDocument\/Content\/03_ScoringRating\/scoring.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BREEAM Outstanding level<\/a> for sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Previously inaccessible dockside will form the backbone of the design providing a 250-metre-long east-west waterside promenade. The flexible framework will enable a campus of buildings with a mix of uses, integrated with ground-level amenities, retail and open space providing a vibrant, urban feel.<\/p>\n<p>The development plans at North Quay are in addition to a further 2 million sq ft CWG has underway in construction projects and a further 2.5 million sq ft in design.<\/p>\n<p>This outline planning permission has been designed to allow for flexibility in the same way as Canary Wharf Group\u2019s Wood Wharf project, which is currently being built.<\/p>\n<p>The flexible framework set out in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/waterfront-development-quay-house\/70677\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">planning application<\/a> includes options for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Between 1.6 and 2.5 million sq ft of business space<\/li>\n<li>Up to 1.6 million sq ft of residential apartments<\/li>\n<li>Up to 640,000 sq ft of retail and \/ or leisure and \/ or community uses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>A new place to work and to live<\/h3>\n<p>Sir George Iacobescu CBE, executive chairman of Canary Wharf Group, said: \u201cNorth Quay is a unique location and one of the largest single development sites in London.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our plans offer a great new place to work and to live, with the extensive public realm, high-quality retail, and new connections, next to a brand new railway station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be a fantastic addition to the Canary Wharf estate and offer an exceptional environment for a range of occupiers and sectors including health and life sciences, technology, media, financial or business services organisations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a dynamic and unpredictable world, the extensive flexibility in this plan will enable us to respond quickly to market demand within a framework agreed with the local authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jason Syrett, partner of Allies and Morrison, said:\u00a0\u201cThe masterplan for North Quay is structured around making connections;
