Regeneration group Torus<\/a> and developer Mulbury<\/a> have submitted plans to build 400 new homes on a site in Leighton, near Crewe<\/h2>\n

The mixed-tenure site, off Flowers Lane, includes a choice of new homes for affordable rent, shared ownership<\/a> and rent-to-buy.<\/p>\n

The 24-hectare, \u00a369m development is Torus\u2019 largest investment in a new housing development.<\/p>\n

The planning and design process considers post-Covid design that fully considers the needs of residents, including access to green space<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a result, a large, public, open space, at the centre of the development, will offer a park, playing fields and play areas for children of all ages.<\/p>\n

The new homes \u2013 a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties \u2013 will be accessed through a new road off Flowers Lane.<\/p>\n

New pedestrian footpaths also form part of the development, linking it up with surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

\u2018The homes local people need\u2019<\/h3>\n

Chris Bowen, managing director of Torus Developments, said: \u201cA landmark site for the group, Flowers Lane is another example of our commitment to investing in Cheshire East through boosting access to truly affordable homes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cCoronavirus has shone a light on the need for high-quality housing which supports people onto or along the property ladder \u2013 without overstretching themselves financially \u2013 which is why we are actively developing a mixed-tenure site suitable for first time buyers<\/a>, downsizers and families.<\/p>\n

\u201cCollaborating with regional and national partners, Flowers Lane will see us build the homes local people need, exactly where they need them, to support the development of a residential site that will boost and improve residents and the wider community\u2019s health and wellbeing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martin Bury, co-founder and director of Mulbury, added: \u201cWe have a longstanding relationship with Torus and we\u2019re incredibly proud to be working in partnership again on this major scheme, which is the largest site we\u2019ve delivered in terms of housing numbers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Leighton scheme creates a distinctive range of family homes that will make this a special community with lots of character.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe significant green infrastructure<\/a>, which includes the park and the retention of trees and hedgerows, will also create a real sense of place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Planning consultancy Satplan advised Mulbury and Torus on the reserved matters planning application. Specialist design practice APD advised on the design and masterplanning for the site.<\/p>\n

Other members of the project team included Campbell Reith (flood and drainage consultant), WSP (transport), and Urban Green (arboriculture and ecology).<\/p>\n

A planning decision is expected in the Autumn.<\/p>\n
