Designs have been drawn up for a striking glass-fronted office development on Harton Quays Park, in the Mill Dam area of South Shields<\/h2>\n

The office development will provide 50,000 sq ft of flexible office space, with basement parking and a roof terrace showcasing 360-degree panoramic views.<\/p>\n

Newcastle-based firm Ryder Architecture<\/a> has been appointed by South Tyneside Council<\/a> and its partner, Muse Developments<\/a>, to work on detailed designs ahead of public consultation.<\/p>\n

A planning application is expected to be submitted early next year.<\/p>\n

The proposed office development is part of the multi-million-pound Holborn regeneration<\/a> masterplan, which will transform the brownfield land on disused docks into a living, working and cultural quarter.<\/p>\n

It would be called The Glassworks, reflecting the industrial heritage of the site<\/a>, where the chimney from the former glassworks remains.<\/p>\n

A landscaped deck would cascade towards the Grade II listed Customs House with views across the regenerated promenade and River Tyne.<\/p>\n

Transformative ambitions<\/h3>\n

Councillor Iain Malcolm, leader of South Tyneside Council, said: \u201cThis is an exciting development in the regeneration of South Shields and our ambitions for Holborn.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis stunning building would start the transformation of a vacant site into a bustling quarter, complementing the considerable investment that has already gone into this area, and strengthening the links between the riverside and the town centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cHolborn will be a sought-after location for living, working and entertainment, for both residents and visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis office development is just the start of that, attracting new businesses to the town and helping to generate jobs for local people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Glassworks would pave the way for further office development<\/a> on the Holborn site.<\/p>\n

David Wells, regional director at Muse Developments, commented: \u201cWe\u2019re proud to welcome Ryder to the team and be moving forward with The Glassworks \u2013 a stunning building that blends the town\u2019s heritage with its aspirations for the future.<\/p>\n
