Croydon Council\u2019s<\/a> development arm, Brick By Brick<\/a>, has been given the go-ahead to deliver nine sustainable homes<\/h2>\n

The sustainable homes scheme is located on a suburban infill site and forms part of the next stage of Brick By Brick\u2019s innovative small sites programme.<\/p>\n

Designed by Sarah Wigglesworth Architects<\/a>, Covington Way comprises nine private and shared ownership flats and a community garden in Norbury.<\/p>\n

The development has been designed to maximise its proximity to nature, sitting between a retained open green space<\/a> and the newly created community garden.<\/p>\n

The new building completes the corner site and frames the green space, with large dormer windows providing views across Norwood Grove recreation ground and balconies looking onto the canopies of mature trees.<\/p>\n

The scheme features a number of measures to improve environmental performance, including air source heat pumps that use renewable energy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These measures form part of Brick By Brick\u2019s commitment to a new set of One Planet Living principles.<\/p>\n

The One Planet Living principles cover ten commitments, including the use of sustainable materials in construction<\/a>, reduced waste to landfill, achieving net-zero carbon emissions from heating and energy use, and encouraging sustainable forms of transport as well as designing homes to foster health, wellbeing and quality of life.<\/p>\n

The new sustainable homes received resolution to grant planning permission from Croydon Council\u2019s virtual planning committee on 30 July.<\/p>\n

The consent follows the completion of Brick By Brick\u2019s first schemes on multiple small sites throughout the borough as part of its innovative programme of development in Croydon.<\/p>\n

Address the housing shortage<\/h3>\n

Colm Lacey, chief executive of Brick By Brick, said: \u201cSecuring planning consent for this site is another step forward for Brick By Brick\u2019s ambitious pipeline.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese homes, which have been designed in close collaboration with the local community, will help to address the shortage of high quality and affordable homes across Croydon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sarah Wigglesworth, director of SWA, commented: \u201cSWA is proud to be part of the team delivering much-needed housing to the community in Croydon.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur nine, high quality homes reflect diverse local demands by providing dwellings of different size, accessibility<\/a> and tenure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new building unifies two street fronts as a striking focus point, using its corner location to address the existing open green space.\u201d<\/p>\n
