\u00a31.3bn of investment today (4 August)<\/h2>\n<p>Funds to deliver up to 45,000 homes, create up to 85,000 jobs and upgrade skills and infrastructure to help fuel a green economic recovery have been announced by housing secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/people\/robert-jenrick\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robert Jenrick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Over 300 shovel-ready projects in England are being told they will receive a share of the \u00a3900m \u2018Getting Building Fund\u2019, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/build-build-build\/78419\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced by the Prime Minister in June<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The investment is expected to deliver up to 45,000 homes, create up to 85,000 jobs and reduce around 65 million kgs of CO2 emissions across England.<\/p>\n<p>Housing secretary Robert Jenrick, said: \u201cAs we get Britain building we are also laying the foundations for a green <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/social-housing-recovery\/80283\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">economic recovery<\/a> by investing in vital infrastructure for local communities, creating jobs and building environmentally-friendly homes with a huge \u00a31.3bn investment announced today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis government is determined to level up all parts of the country and this funding will not only give a much needed boost to our economic recovery, it will help build the good quality, affordable homes the country needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Successful projects include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a323m for phase 1 of the development of commercial space at Mayfield Park in Greater Manchester, expected to deliver 3,200 jobs and attract over 1 million visitors a year<\/li>\n<li>\u00a314.88m to accelerate the National Brownfield Land Institute, a project aiming to create a leader in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/sustainable-construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sustainable construction<\/a> which will support the housing deal and drive levelling up across the region<\/li>\n<li>\u00a312m to support a new high-speed railway station in Thanet, Kent, improving transport in the area and creating 800 new jobs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To deliver a further 26,000 new homes while protecting greenfield sites, the government has also confirmed a \u00a3360m investment in Mayoral Combined Authority areas through its \u00a3400m Brownfield Fund.<\/p>\n<p>An additional \u00a38m of funding has also been announced to help speed up the delivery of these new homes on brownfield sites and the government is inviting ambitious bids from the Mayoral Combined Authorities for the remaining \u00a340m of the fund.<\/p>\n<h3>Green Homes Grant scheme<\/h3>\n<p>Details of the new \u00a32bn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/green-recovery-property-retrofit\/79894\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Green Homes Grant scheme<\/a>, which will see the government fund up to two-thirds of the cost of home improvements of over 600,000 homes, have also been announced.<\/p>\n<p>Tradespeople must register for TrustMark accreditation to take part in the scheme, which will cover green home improvements ranging from insulation of walls, floors and roofs, to the installation of low-carbon heating, like heat pumps or solar thermal \u2013 measures that could help homeowners including landlords save up to \u00a3600 a year on their energy bills.<\/p>\n<p>Households on low income can receive vouchers covering 100% of the cost of the improvements, up to a maximum of \u00a310,000.<\/p>\n<p>Business and energy secretary Alok Sharma, said: \u201cGreen home improvements will save people money on their energy bills, help to cut carbon emissions, and create new work for many thousands of builders, plumbers and other tradespeople.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur TrustMark scheme will guarantee that building work is completed to a high standard by accredited tradespeople, ensuring consumers are fully protected.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lepnetwork.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Network<\/a>, Mark Bretton said: \u201cAs business led partnerships with a ready-made pipeline of projects, LEPs responded swiftly to the Prime Minister\u2019s call for infrastructure projects with more available when government is ready.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLEPs \u2018can do\u2019 business attitude has created a proven track record of complex delivery, landing projects at scale, on time and to budget. The foundations they are building for local recovery in their Five Point Plan will underpin our national recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The funding commitments come ahead of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/new-planning-laws\/79670\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">radical overhaul of the planning system<\/a> due to be announced shortly.
