Highways England<\/a> has appointed Kier Highways<\/a> to deliver the \u00a3160m Area 4 maintenance and response contract which will run for eight years<\/h2>\n

The Area 4 maintenance and response contract commences in November 2020 and covers Kent, East Sussex and West Sussex.<\/p>\n

Kier will be responsible for maintaining 130km of motorways (M2, M20 and M23), 320km of trunk road and over 1000 structures, including Medway Viaduct, the A20 Roundhill Tunnel and the A27 Southwick Tunnel.<\/p>\n

The contract will include routine and cyclical maintenance, incident response, defect rectification and severe weather delivery on the trunk roads and motorways within Area 4.<\/p>\n

It will also include maintenance of roadside technology<\/a> and the provision of traffic management for the contractor\u2019s maintenance and response activities.<\/p>\n

Enabling road safety<\/h3>\n

Joe Incutti, group managing director for Kier Highways, said: \u201cI am delighted that Kier has been awarded the Highways England Area 4 Maintenance and Response Contract, enabling it to continue to work with Highways England in the second Roads Investment Period, which is scheduled to end in 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis eight-year contract commencing in November 2020 adds to Kier Highways capacity and capability across the South of England, where it will now work in a number of areas stretching from Cornwall through to Kent.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking forward to warmly welcoming our new colleagues into Kier and working with Highways England to strive for the continuous improvement of safety practices, strong delivery performance and great customer service in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nicola Bell, Highways England regional operations director, added: \u201cOur roads are among the safest in the world and partnerships like this will help maintain high standards.<\/p>\n
