{"id":81348,"date":"2020-08-24T11:20:16","date_gmt":"2020-08-24T10:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=81348"},"modified":"2020-08-24T11:20:16","modified_gmt":"2020-08-24T10:20:16","slug":"a57-mottram-contract","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/a57-mottram-contract\/81348\/","title":{"rendered":"Balfour Beatty awarded \u00a3108m A57 Mottram contract"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.balfourbeatty.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Balfour Beatty<\/a> has been awarded a \u00a3108<\/span><span class=\"s2\">m<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> contract to design and build a dual carriageway linking the M67 with the A57 in Mottram Moor, Greater Manchester<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">The <\/span><span class=\"s2\">A57 <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Mo<\/span><span class=\"s2\">ttram<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> contract has been awarded<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">on behalf of <a href=\"https:\/\/highwaysengland.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Highways England<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s2\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">As part of <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Highways England\u2019s Regional Investment Programme,<\/span> <span class=\"s2\">Balfour Beatty will design and construct a new dual and single lane carriageway as well as an underpass underneath Mottram Village. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">The work aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/phased-opening-manchesters-smart-motorway-begins-autumn\/34784\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tackle congestion between Manchester and Sheffield<\/a> while also reconnecting local communities divided by a busy road network. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">Contributing to the local community<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Throughout the project, Balfour Beatty will contribute to the local economy and community. Activities will include community engagement through school and employment workshops; reducing energy and fuel usage on site with the use of hybrid electric plant machinery, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/waste-in-construction\/65702\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">minimising waste on site<\/a> and reducing potable water usage with tailored recycling programmes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">Phil Clifton, <\/span><span class=\"s2\">m<\/span><span class=\"s2\">anaging <\/span><span class=\"s2\">d<\/span><span class=\"s2\">irector of Balfour Beatty\u2019s Highway<\/span><span class=\"s2\">s<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, said: \u201cBalfour Beatty, and our design partners, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atkinsglobal.com\/en-gb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Atkins<\/a>, are proud to be delivering this critical project to support economic growth in the North of England.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cWe are pleased to contribute to the development of the local area by connecting communities and bringing additional social value through the use of local suppliers and supporting employment opportunities within the area;
