The chief executive of Highways England<\/a>, Jim O\u2019Sullivan has announced that he will stand down from the position early next year<\/h2>\n

Jim O\u2019Sullivan was appointed in 2015 and since then has led the company\u2019s delivery of the government\u2019s first multi-billion pound roads programme<\/a>, making the country\u2019s strategic road network safer and more reliable.<\/p>\n

Jim O\u2019Sullivan, said: \u201cThe people in Highways England and our supply chain have achieved great things in the past five years and I consider it a privilege to have worked with them.<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether with the DfT<\/a>, our monitor ORR, Transport Focus and stakeholders across the sector we have done things that five years ago would not have been considered feasible.<\/p>\n

\u201cI leave Highways England well placed to deliver the second roads period and to prepare for the third. That makes it a good time to step down and I wish the sector and the company every success for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Highways England\u2019s transport secretary, Grant Shapps, added: \u201cI\u2019d like to thank Jim O\u2019Sullivan for his hard work and commitment over the past five years.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis successor will start at an exciting time for the company as it embarks on our ambitious \u00a327.4bn Second Roads Investment Strategy. The programme will deliver on this government\u2019s vision to level-up our roads infrastructure, connecting communities, creating jobs and boosting growth<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roger Lowe, Highways England interim chair, commented: \u201cOn behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Jim for the great commitment he has shown in leading Highways England through the first five-year Roads Investment Period and establishing a strong base for the recently agreed second phase.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has been instrumental in so many of the positive changes which benefit all our stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n
