Morrison Construction<\/a> has been awarded the contract for the Arbroath Flood Protection Scheme by Angus Council<\/h2>\n

The Arbroath Flood Protection Scheme is funded by Scottish Government and Angus Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The scheme has been designed to reduce the risk of flooding from Brothock Water, which runs through the coastal town. It will provide a one in 200-year standard of protection.<\/p>\n

It is a national priority project under the Flood Risk Management Strategy and has been developed in partnership with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).<\/p>\n

The project was due to start in May, however due to the Covid-19 outbreak<\/a>, it has experienced some delay.<\/p>\n

Morrison Construction has been appointed following a tender evaluation process and is currently engaged in a detailed pre-start review of the \u00a312m project with hopes to commence work shortly. This review will ensure compliance with Covid-19 guidelines and working practices<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Communities convener, Mark Salmond, said: \u201cI am delighted that we can confirm the award of the contract to Morrison Construction. The coronavirus pandemic has had a huge impact on our lives \u2013 at home and at work, and for leisure and industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo section of our community has been left untouched by this emergency, but it will be good to see these works commencing soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis provides some good news and certainty around the Arbroath Flood Scheme \u2013 a project that will undoubtedly have really positive outcomes for a large number of the town\u2019s residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

Benefits to the community of Arbroath<\/h3>\n

The main focus of the scheme is to hold back the flow in the catchment above Arbroath to reduce flows in Brothock Water. This will protect parts of the town that have suffered from flooding in the past and remain at risk from flooding.<\/p>\n

It will reduce the risk of flooding to 530 people and their properties and prevent flood damage that averages at \u00a3840,000 each year. Once underway, the project will take approximately 18-months to complete.<\/p>\n
