Nicola Pearson, head of skills and knowledge transfer at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdbb.cam.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centre for Digital Built Britain<\/a> (CDBB), sets out the benefits and calls for feedback<\/h2>\n<p>Responding to the needs of industry, the UK BIM Framework has released the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ukbimframework.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/UK-BIM-Framework-Learning-Outcomes_Edition1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UK BIM Framework Learning Outcomes Edition 1<\/a> \u2013 a free resource to support the development of training content for BIM aligned with current standards.<\/p>\n<p>This latest publication represents an important step forward in the digital management of information for the whole life of a more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/digital-twin-built-environment\/58778\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">integrated built environment<\/a>, supporting industry needs to embrace the ISO 19650 series of standards and helping those transitioning from the original BS\/PAS1192 series. It is also a useful resource for those seeking training to evaluate if a course is aligned with the UK BIM Framework and the ISO 19650 series of standards.<\/p>\n<p>Based upon the BIM Academic Forum\u2019s Learning Outcomes Framework (2012), this entirely refreshed schedule, updated for the BS EN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/bs-en-iso-19650-2\/76964\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ISO 19650<\/a> series, is the result of a collaboration between academics, UK construction industry education professionals and the UK BIM Framework member organisations, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bsigroup.com\/en-GB\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">British Standards Institute<\/a> (BSI), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdbb.cam.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Centre for Digital Built Britain<\/a> (CDBB), and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukbimalliance.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UK BIM Alliance<\/a> (UKBIMA).<\/p>\n<h3>Adopting information management<\/h3>\n<p>CDBB is committed to working with BSI and the UK BIM Alliance to support the growth of BIM capability aligned to standards. This will be achieved by showing why and how to adopt information management and ensuring consistency of training around information management and BIM. This, in turn, will catalyse the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/digital-transformation-sustainability\/72560\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">built environment<\/a> as it digitally transforms.<\/p>\n<p>The new learning outcomes resource \u2013 which joins the <a href=\"https:\/\/ukbimframework.org\/standards-guidance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">range of tools and guidance documents<\/a> developed to support British standards as part of the UK BIM Framework \u2013 includes clear explanation presented over five sections that sets out: why information management using BIM is required and its strategic context in the UK;\u00a0the implications and value of information management using BIM for organisations;\u00a0how information requirements are identified and communicated;\u00a0how information is shared between organisations; and\u00a0understanding the legal and security implications of the UK BIM Framework and its interfaces with other important processes such as health and safety management.<\/p>\n<p>Many educators and practitioners supported the development of the UK BIM Framework Learning Outcomes and CDBB is grateful for this significant input that is helping to support the growth of BIM capability in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>We are now keen to gain feedback from a range of sources \u2013 from Appointing Parties and their supply chains to the training and academic communities \u2013 on the usefulness of the updated Learning Outcomes. We would welcome comments and suggestions for how they could be improved in the future in order to keep them current and relevant \u2013 do get in touch with us by emailing <a href=\"mailto:learningoutcomes@ukbimframework.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">learningoutcomes@ukbimframework.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The UK BIM Framework Learning Outcomes is aligned with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/stakeholders\/buildingsmart\/50446\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">buildingSMART<\/a> UK Chapter\u2019s Professional Certification (PCERT)1, to be published later in 2020, and the next edition will consider any modifications necessary to provide Learning Outcomes for BS EN ISO 19650-3, once it has been published.
