Eric Wright Civil Engineering<\/a> has commenced work on the final stage of a new link road and overbridge in Northallerton on behalf of Taylor Wimpey<\/a> North Yorkshire and Persimmon Homes<\/a><\/h2>\n

Part of a \u00a314m project, the new link road and overbridge in Northallerton will connect the northeast and north-west of the town over the Middlesbrough to Northallerton railway line.<\/p>\n

Planning consent was greenlit in February 2020, with the link road and bridge forming the North Northallerton Development Area.<\/p>\n

The work will join the two Northallerton developments, Thurstan Park and Kings Park.<\/p>\n

The scheme has been made possible by a \u00a36m funding injection from the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership.<\/p>\n

The strategic road link<\/a> has been designed to accommodate traffic, cyclists and pedestrians and provide an attractive east-west route,\u00a0particularly for HGVs.<\/p>\n

The overbridge is proposed to span over the railway and Brompton Beck, with a view to allowing sufficient headroom for future electrification of the line.<\/p>\n

Transport network benefits<\/h3>\n

Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes, commented: \u201cWe are very pleased to be able to further progress this project, and to now be able to deliver the final key element of the new road, the railway bridge<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis connection will bring benefits to both the town and the wider area\u2019s transport network.\u201d<\/p>\n

North Yorkshire County Councillor Don Mackenzie, executive member for access, said: \u201cIt is great to see the final phase on the North Northallerton Development site get underway.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur officers have worked closely with the developers, designers and Network Rail\u00a0to ensure that the new road bridge provides a safe crossing of the railway line and Brompton Beck to complete this key road link for the town.\u201d<\/p>\n

EWCE managing director Diane Bourne, added: \u201cWe are pleased to be delivering this key piece of infrastructure<\/a> that includes a valuable bridge across the Northallerton to Middlesbrough railway line.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are currently delivering a growing number of civil engineering contracts right across Yorkshire with sites in Hull, Rotherham, Keighley, Skipton and Pontefract.\u201d<\/p>\n

The link road and overbridge in Northallerton is due to be completed in Autumn 2021.<\/p>\n
