Interserve has won a facilities management (FM) contract worth £7.6m over the next three years with the London Fire Brigade

The scope of the facilities management contract includes cleaning the Brigade’s estate which consists of 94 fire stations and associated sites and includes a riverboat used as a floating base for tackling fires.

Cleaning delivered by the team focuses on the stations, officers’ areas, kitchens and public spaces. Interserve has delivered services for the London Fire Brigade over the last four years and employs 120 people as part of the contract.

The new contract is for three years but may be extended by up to two years if successfully delivered. It also includes the delivery of grounds maintenance, pest control and security services.

The facilities management contract was altered as the response to the pandemic necessitated changes to the service. Interserve’s response included keeping the stations and colleagues as safe as possible by extending the range of services on offer to include regular deep cleans, frequently cleaning common touchpoints and by increasing shifts from four days a week to a daily operation.

The contract will be delivered by Interserve’s communities and international business unit, which is led by Martin Burholt and delivers leading facilities management services to the healthcare, local authorities, emergency services and educational sectors.

Keeping stations clean has never been so important

Claire Page, supply chain manager in the procurement department at London Fire Brigade said: “We are pleased to award this contract to Interserve. Keeping our stations clean in the current climate has never been so important as it gives our staff confidence that they can go about their daily duties.”

Martin Burholt, managing director of communities and International, said: “I am delighted that London Fire Brigade has awarded Interserve this new contract.

“I believe this is a reflection of the excellent partnership we have formed with London Fire Brigade and of the market-leading experience, we have gained over the years and during Covid-19 delivering critical services across the UK to the emergency services.

“We have been responsive to the London Fire Brigade’s needs so that they can concentrate on delivering the essential services they provide to the people of London.”
