{"id":82292,"date":"2020-09-10T13:57:47","date_gmt":"2020-09-10T12:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=82292"},"modified":"2020-09-10T13:57:47","modified_gmt":"2020-09-10T12:57:47","slug":"engineering-services-apprentices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/engineering-services-apprentices\/82292\/","title":{"rendered":"Engineering services industry urged to hire apprentices"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eca.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Electrical Contractors&#8217; Association<\/a> (ECA) is calling on engineering services businesses to continue to recruit apprentices<\/h2>\n<p>ECA has urged engineering services firms to continue to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/tag\/apprenticeship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recruit new apprentices<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The trade body has created an explanatory video, which highlights the array of financial and business benefits to employers from apprentices.<\/p>\n<h3>Apprentice benefits include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Employers can claim Government incentive payments of up to \u00a33,000 per apprentice hired up until the end of January 2021<\/li>\n<li>Government training grants mean that in England, for example, non-apprentice levy payers need contribute only five per cent of the costs of training an apprentice<\/li>\n<li>Over four years, a business can receive a return on investment of up to \u00a357,000 from each apprentice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The video also explains a range of ways in which employers can get apprentices back to work after time away on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/hmrc-furlough-abuse\/80471\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">furlough<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It also outlines how apprentices can travel to and undertake work safely, in line with current social distancing requirements.<\/p>\n<h3>The bedrock of the engineering services industry<\/h3>\n<p>ECA director of employment, Andrew Eldred, said: \u201cApprentices are the bedrock of the electrotechnical and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/engineering-services-skillcard\/78873\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">engineering services<\/a> industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose employers able to retain and hire new apprentices can expect a healthy return on their investment, as well as longer-term benefits such as more sustainable business growth and stronger capability in new technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cECA urges employers to watch our new video and consider the benefits of having apprentices in your organisation, as well how you can bring existing apprentices back safely from furlough.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe welcome the consistent commitment of ECA members such as T.
