{"id":82302,"date":"2020-09-11T08:26:27","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T07:26:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=82302"},"modified":"2020-09-11T08:26:27","modified_gmt":"2020-09-11T07:26:27","slug":"levy-exemption-sme-contractors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/levy-exemption-sme-contractors\/82302\/","title":{"rendered":"CITB removes 5,000 smaller contractors from levy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CITB<\/a> has revealed 5,000 smaller contractors will be exempt from levy payments next year<\/h2>\n<p>Under the proposals, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/levy-grants-and-funding\/citb-levy\/levy-rates-and-exemptions\/current-rates\/#:~:text=Exemption%20for%20small%20businesses,'Small%20Business%20Levy%20Exemption'.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Small Business Levy Exemption<\/a> threshold for employers with wage bills of less than \u00a380,000 is set to be raised to \u00a3120,000 \u2013 removing, 5,000 smaller businesses from paying the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/citb-sets-out-plan\/78193\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CITB Levy<\/a> next year.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/construction-smes-covid\/80715\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">construction SMEs<\/a> are set to pay no Levy at all for 2021-22, under new CITB proposals submitted to the government this week.<\/p>\n<p>However, they can continue to claim CITB grants and support for their training and skills development.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/citb-covid-measures\/80609\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CITB\u2019s proposal<\/a> to raise the threshold came out of discussions earlier this year with industry leaders, stakeholders and a cross-section of construction employers on industry priorities and funding.<\/p>\n<p>Views from employers have been built into CITB\u2019s\u00a0Levy Proposals for the 2021 Levy Order\u00a0and Strategic Plan 2021-25, which have now been submitted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Department for Education<\/a> (DfE) for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>The consultation showed that 85% of employers supported an option to increase the Levy exemption threshold.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 35,000 employers are already exempt from paying Levy under the current system, with the proposed threshold increase taking this up to 40,000.<\/p>\n<h3>Helping employers recovery<\/h3>\n<p>Steve Radley, CITB policy director, said: \u201cTaking 5,000 of the smaller employers out of Levy payment is another measure to help deliver on our priority to help employers stabilise and then return to growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to confirm that we have submitted proposals to halve Levy rates for next year. Later this month we will publish our Strategic Plan that will set out how we plan to invest the Levy to support the recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CITB has also confirmed its plans to halve levy rates in 2021-22, cutting next year\u2019s Levy bills by 50%.
