Technology<\/a> (CST).<\/p>\n<p>The relaunched Living Lab of connected homes is now\u00a0open, interoperable and scalable, enabling innovative products, services and business models to be tested and integrated with mainstream\u00a0smart heating controls,\u00a0smart meters,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/iot-construction-sector\/82032\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0IoT devices<\/a>, and\u00a0electric vehicle chargers.<\/p>\n<p>The Catapult is interested in speaking to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/construction-technology-news\/electric-vehicle-infrastructure\/79146\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Electric Vehicle Smart Charging<\/a>\u00a0companies that are keen to launch or scale new products, to join the likes of leading smart home firm,\u00a0tado\u00b0, which has installed their zonal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/smart-heating-controls\/81458\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">heating controls<\/a> into a significant number of Living Lab homes.<\/p>\n<p>The relaunch follows soon after the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/u7061146.ct.sendgrid.net\/ls\/click?upn=4tNED-2FM8iDZJQyQ53jATUcLK-2BU9WFuvPWhJGG6tGts7uAZ34IrbQ9K5Ox3DmRlvBpsRindMIYMSWIMBLhYJf9CrFX04wZvuWAXcgHgZvJ46nHcM1ZUJEmDOYi2ReAnz0RjhMteYiIIOyXt33tC-2F2RljE2lgllS6S-2FHWMhc1jca8-3DsKvO_r95Xg7-2BqhKQOvO-2B4rh9Lgis7LIpKoJTS-2BC3NbChRcGZ7-2FyokggC60HK0aKea5VYjTnMLTCZ1gY-2F9smRfK7ER-2ByVLfsP3VjjJ241sCZVmIIprVSJIozV4sXLSLNglKffbtF0ojBK8Pt5pNcdL0mBLyVjWDrPAmAm-2F-2B2xuQWaWHcgKjlHvgX134nmB5eXltvEzYp7zpwGrVLoD8dL0Yyg-2Bg1MXRyEzirTKTPOSyG7Z1qvR-2B5WnAkopZGVb0K3rfXiOPYVXPiIe-2F1NGCqtZNAisi6BlrYuyKsdB2fmqMxCw9VoRm4P4Fhs-2BCWB5zbUsDaHqfJSBuqU-2BvSFvf4l2Cv-2B5tXUK5KT7bwfXbP4hTVdWXj8-3D\">Prime Minister\u2019s Council for Science &amp; Technology named the Living Lab<\/a>\u00a0as a key place to run \u201ctrials and experimentation to understand user behaviours and responses to technologies, particularly as the use of decentralised and digitalised technology changes the energy system\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Living Lab will also work with innovators to provide insights and evidence to Government and Regulators to influence new market arrangements, policies and regulations to ensure UK business can capitalise on clean growth as we accelerate efforts to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/energy-news\/decarbonise-uk-construction\/79367\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">decarbonise the UK energy system<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The upgraded lab enables:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Energy suppliers to trial energy service propositions with mainstream smart home controls<\/li>\n<li>Products to be installed quickly and easily into homes using the new digital integration platform to ensure interoperability<\/li>\n<li>Access to a wealth of consumer and technical data, to rapidly design, market-test and launch smart energy innovations<\/li>\n<li>Behind-the-meter flexibility to be tested<\/li>\n<li>Testing of the value of new business models with real consumers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Energy Systems Catapult business lead for the Living Lab, Rebecca Sweeney, said:\u00a0\u201cThe Living Lab is a national asset that provides energy innovators with a safe, affordable, shared space to the test, demonstrate, de-risk and scale-up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring lockdown, we have invested in a new digital integration platform that enables us to quickly and easily install both new innovations and off-the-shelf products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe digital integration platform is like a universal adapter, offering interoperability\u00a0\u2013 physically, digitally, and commercially \u2013 between the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/smart-buildings-data-overload\/72319\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">smart heating control systems and IoT devices<\/a> being used by Living Lab homes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cData from these in-home devices can be streamed and analysed by our data scientists, while our consumer insights team is available to provide a richer picture of how the people within the Living Lab are interacting with the innovative products and services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time as the new platform was being developed, we were upgrading homes with new smart heating controls.
