{"id":82464,"date":"2020-09-15T11:07:02","date_gmt":"2020-09-15T10:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=82464"},"modified":"2020-09-15T11:07:02","modified_gmt":"2020-09-15T10:07:02","slug":"ultrafast-broadband-south-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/ultrafast-broadband-south-west\/82464\/","title":{"rendered":"Kier to build ultrafast broadband in the south west"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kier.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kier<\/a> has been awarded a major new contract by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.openreach.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Openreach<\/a>\u00a0to build new broadband infrastructure in Swindon and other areas of Wiltshire<\/h2>\n<p>This award will support Openreach\u2019s \u00a312bn project to deliver ultrafast, ultra-reliable \u2018Full Fibre\u2019 broadband to millions of homes and businesses throughout the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next 18 months, Kier will survey, plan and construct a new network to premises in Swindon as well as Royal Wootton Bassett and Highworth in Wiltshire.<\/p>\n<p>The contract award follows a competitive tender process and will see Kier supporting Openreach\u2019s ambition to build Full Fibre\u00a0infrastructure to 20 million premises throughout the UK by the mid-to-late 2020s \u2013 delivering significant\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.openreach.com\/content\/dam\/openreach\/openreach-dam-files\/images\/hidden-pages\/full-fibre-impact\/CebrReport_online.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">economic, social and environmental benefits<\/a>\u00a0for urban communities.<\/p>\n<p>Kier is one of nine partners who will be helping to expand Openreach\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/commercial-smart-buildings\/75456\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">full fibre network<\/a> to a further two million premises across the UK.<\/p>\n<h3>Digital services with economic benefits<\/h3>\n<p>Barry McNicholas, general managing director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kier.co.uk\/who\/rail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kier Utilities &amp;
