{"id":82657,"date":"2020-09-18T10:56:03","date_gmt":"2020-09-18T09:56:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=82657"},"modified":"2020-09-18T10:56:03","modified_gmt":"2020-09-18T09:56:03","slug":"citb-support-for-apprentices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/citb-support-for-apprentices\/82657\/","title":{"rendered":"CITB expands support for apprentices during Covid-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citb.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CITB<\/a> is extending its support to help find a new employer for any displaced apprentices as part of a raft of measures to keep skills within the industry<\/h2>\n<p>Any construction apprentice is now eligible to receive CITB support if they lose their job or apprenticeship.<\/p>\n<p>60% of construction companies\u00a0in the Construction Leadership Council\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.constructionleadershipcouncil.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Retaining-Talent-in-Construction-The-Results-of-the-People-Survey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">People Survey<\/a>\u00a0said they would take on fewer apprentices at the next intake later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately a quarter of construction\u2019s 11,000 apprentices across the country are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/citb-furlough\/74341\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">furloughed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>CITB\u2019s dedicated support team will look to find a new employer for any displaced apprentice, through local industry contacts or by registering them with the Construction Leadership Council\u2019s recently-launched\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/hr-skills-news\/construction-talent-retention-scheme\/78949\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Construction Talent Retention Scheme<\/a>, which redeploys displaced apprentices and industry operatives.<\/p>\n<p>If an employer is unable to help an apprentice complete their training amid current circumstances, CITB will help to find a new employer and also reallocate grant funding to them to support training through to completion, and with the help of Further Education (FE) partners and providers also assist with employment opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>To prevent apprentice redundancies and encourage more employers to take them on, CITB is investing a total of \u00a31m in\u00a0shared apprenticeship schemes\u00a0in England, Scotland and Wales.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, apprentices work for one employer throughout their training.
