Graham<\/a> has completed one of the first new student blocks at the University of York<\/a> in just 26 days, using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)<\/h2>\n

Graham has topped out one of the first blocks at the University of York\u2019s 1,480-bed student accommodation project<\/a> in the space of 26 days.<\/p>\n

Using MMC, Graham erected a superstructure comprising 292 panels weighing a total of 1,600 tonnes, 100 windows, 63 bathroom pods and was inclusive of all stairs, service risers, lift cores, and wire ways.<\/p>\n

The student accommodation forms a key part of the University of York\u2019s transformative \u2018Campus Masterplan\u2019 framework that has been designed to meet the needs of its expanding global student body.<\/p>\n

Graham is also an investor in the project as part of a consortium with Equitix<\/a>, a fund manager of core infrastructure assets.<\/p>\n

Neil McFarlane, strategic projects director at Graham: \u201cTopping out the first block at the University of York is a significant step forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy embracing modern methods of construction<\/a> and offsite assembly, we have been able to deliver at pace and to the highest quality.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce completed, the campus will offer students an exceptional level of quality accommodation onsite and reduce reliance on city centre accommodation and housing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe designs are exciting, sustainable, and will enhance the student experience at the University.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Talboys, director of estates and campus services at the University of York, added: “In these challenging times it is really encouraging to reach a milestone like this.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe University of York remains committed to increasing its provision of quality accommodation for more of its students on campus and this is a positive step to making that happen.”<\/p>\n

Construction for the project, which has been designed by architects Sheppard Robson, will be completed for the 2022 academic year.<\/p>\n
