Cleveland Council<\/a> has appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bam.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BAM Construction<\/a> to deliver the new \u00a39.7m Regent Cinema development in Redcar<\/h2>\n<p>The striking new facilities are funded by the <a href=\"https:\/\/teesvalley-ca.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tees Valley Combined Authority<\/a> (TVCA).<\/p>\n<p>The new Redcar community venue has been designed to seat nearly 200 people in three screens with 34, 56 and 94 seats respectively following the discovery in 2018 of serious structural problems in the existing building which forced its closure.<\/p>\n<p>The new Art Deco style cinema reflects the rich history of the site and has key features such as a licensed caf\u00e9 bar with sea views.<\/p>\n<p>The new cinema stands on the beachfront, which poses some issues for construction.<\/p>\n<p>The architect is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gt3architects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GT3<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairhurst.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fairhurst<\/a> are the structural and civil engineers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.identityconsult.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Identity Consult<\/a> are project and cost managers.<\/p>\n<p>The project has recently commenced with an aim to open the cinema in spring 2022.<\/p>\n<h3>An eye-catching development<\/h3>\n<p>Construction director, Tony Fitzgerald, said: \u201cWe\u2019re not just a local construction firm, we develop, design, construct and operate buildings, and our sister company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bamnuttall.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BAM Nuttall<\/a>, are leading marine specialists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaving worked on a number of coastal projects in the North East including a new RNLI lifeboat station in Scarborough and the renewal of Saltburn Pier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have provided advice on the sub-structure design with suitable materials and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/planning-construction-news\/southsea-coastal-scheme-3\/81541\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">solutions for the coastal environment<\/a> and more importantly tidal working knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis expertise, plus our collaborative and high-tech way of working, are what we bring to making this historic part of Redcar live again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing 150 years old ourselves and having built in the North East since 1916, we know that it\u2019s a tremendous shame to demolish a lovely old theatre from the 1920s for which there is some local affection, however, we know the building is beyond saving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s built right onto the beach, uses natural light and has a terracotta fa\u00e7ade, and it will provide that special building which enhances any location.\u201d<\/p>\n<div
