{"id":84177,"date":"2020-10-21T09:54:01","date_gmt":"2020-10-21T08:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/?p=84177"},"modified":"2020-10-21T09:54:01","modified_gmt":"2020-10-21T08:54:01","slug":"digital-twin-innovations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/digital-construction-news\/bim-news\/digital-twin-innovations\/84177\/","title":{"rendered":"Bentley Systems and Microsoft\u00a0to accelerate digital twin innovations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bentley.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bentley Systems<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-gb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft Corp<\/a> will be joining forces to focus on advancing infrastructure for smart city urban planning and smart construction<\/h2>\n<p>The alliance will combine <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-gb\/services\/digital-twins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Microsoft\u2019s Azure IoT Digital Twins<\/a> and Azure Maps with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bentley.com\/en\/products\/product-line\/digital-twins\/itwin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bentley Systems\u2019 iTwins platform<\/a>, enabling engineers, architects, constructors and city planners to work within a comprehensive city-scale digital twin, empowering better decision-making, efficiency, reducing costs and improving collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>The companies will explore opportunities for digital twins in urban planning and citizen engagement for cities around the world. The collaboration will enable improved decision-making and increased productivity through Microsoft Teams for infrastructure engineers.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to sustaining infrastructure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/smarter-cities-digital-twins\/61669\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">development in smart cities<\/a>, project digital twins are facilitating industrial construction.<\/p>\n<p>Bentley Systems was recognised by Microsoft as the 2020 MSUS Partner Award winner for the Industry-Automotive category, in which an automotive\u00a0factory uses the HoloLens 2 with Bentley\u2019s SYNCHRO 4D construction-modeling software.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, FC Barcelona, one of the oldest football clubs in Europe, is partnering with Bentley as part of the club\u2019s renovation of Barcelona\u2019s Camp Nou stadium, the largest in Europe, currently under construction amid the pandemic.<\/p>\n<h3>Bringing digital twin advances to infrastructure<\/h3>\n<p>Greg Bentley, CEO, Bentley Systems, said: \u201cAt Bentley we believe that infrastructure digital twins can empower engineers, constructors and owner-operators to design, build and operate infrastructure assets that are more cost-effective, more resilient and more sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Azure as the foundation of our cloud services, our offerings are more broadly scaled and differentiated by the further integrations of Microsoft technologies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to extend our partnership to bring new digital twin advances to infrastructure engineering organisations and their constituents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Azure IoT, Azure Digital Twins and Bentley\u2019s iTwins platform, the world\u2019s infrastructure \u2014 vital to our economies and environment \u2014 stands to gain so much by enabling people to create comprehensive digital models of an entire environment,\u201d said<\/p>\n<p>Casey McGee, vice president partner development, US one commercial partner, Microsoft, said: \u201cOur expanded strategic alliance with Bentley Systems opens up new opportunities for innovation and will accelerate the benefits of digital twins for infrastructure engineering organisations and, more broadly, society at large.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jamie Cudden, smart city program manager at Dublin City Council, said:\u00a0\u201cTo overcome the challenges of getting public review and comment for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbctoday.co.uk\/news\/bim-news\/digital-twins-infrastructure\/70121\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new development projects<\/a> in Dublin during the pandemic, we turned to Microsoft and Bentley to create an interactive virtual environment to ensure our citizens could provide their input from the safety of their homes and keep the development projects on track.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>William\u00a0T.\u00a0Mannarelli, director of Real Estate &amp;
