Technology start-up, Eave<\/a> has secured a \u00a32m investment from Pembroke VCT<\/a> to improve noise protection standards for construction workers<\/h2>\n

The noise protection<\/a> specialist is already supplying many of the biggest construction companies in the UK\u2014including Galliford Try Highways, Costain-Skanska Joint Venture, Ferrovial, VolkerLaser, Skanska-Costain-Strabag, and BAM Nuttall\u2014and aims to use Pembroke\u2019s investment to boost its growth and international expansion through 2021.<\/p>\n

Eave\u2019s hearing protection system comprises its FocusLite<\/em> smart ear defenders<\/a> and Peak<\/em>, a cloud-based risk monitoring and prevention platform.<\/p>\n

Eave customers equip their workforces with FocusLite<\/em> headsets, which gather real-time data on construction site noise as well as the wearer\u2019s exposure rate, and feed it through to Peak<\/em>, where the data is analysed by health and safety<\/a> professionals and work-site managers, who use it to manage or eliminate noise-related risks.<\/p>\n

Unlike traditional noise protection solutions like earplugs and passive ear defenders, Eave\u2019s FocusLite<\/em> headsets contain hear-through technology\u2014which means wearers retain full situational awareness and the ability to communicate\u2014whilst being protected from harmful sources of noise.<\/p>\n

Eave\u2019s long-term mission is to eliminate the isolation and loneliness caused by hearing loss, and the scourge of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) in the construction industry.<\/p>\n

Costain-Skanska Joint Venture and Galliford Try Highways have already mandated active hearing protection<\/a> with integrated noise monitoring on all of their sites, with other industry giants set to follow their lead in 2021.<\/p>\n

Eliminating loneliness and isolation<\/h3>\n

Dr David Greenberg, founder and CEO of Eave, said: \u201cNoise-induced hearing loss is a huge problem \u2013 it\u2019s the number one <\/em>occupational disease in Europe and accounts for about a third of all <\/em>work-related disease.<\/p>\n
